i have two xj40 with the same problem....  ff37 or egr fault....  both cars do have bad egr valves suprise suprise, but for some reason the egr solenoid valve is not getting a ground signal from the computer. (i have checked continuity from solenoid valve to ecm and it is fine) The suggested method to fix this states that you replace the engine ecm but we have tried swapping out a computer with another car and it does the same damn thing. any suggestions ???? please email me at philsk8ts@aol.com  or post here if you dont have email thanks you for the time and help!

I had one of the guys here, Whit, email him directly.  It starts with the sensor sending the signal to the ECU.  The vacuum line to the sensor loves to clog with much.  Phil's checking on it now.
