How about the system that is used in the entire rest of the world? litres per 100 km.

On average my car uses 11-12 l/100km but the trip computer always lies optimistically and says 10-11l/100km

great! how about how many decalitres to the hectare? mpg? miles per gallon please. wanting to know if my rough starts and slight miss are from water in gas or something more serious, noticed there was a slight increase since the temp dropped the last few weeks. put some heet in my tank and will see if that helps. thanks, Bill

Your car should trigger engine malfunction light under engine misfire conditions and mostly you get P0300 code

I experienced that also - thought I had an intake leak the way it acted. Starts, runs a few seconds, stumbles badly and almost dies before smoothing out to a clean idle - am I right?
I wouldn't have believed it, but my dealer told me to use mid-grade gas instead of premium when temps drop much below 30f, and it works! Can't speak for any difference in mileage, other than the wasted fuel for a necessary warmup since I don't park it in my garage.

My 3.0 automatic typically gets 25 - 27 MPG (US) running at interstate speeds on trips.  In town, she gets 20 consistently.  She gets her best mileage on 93 Octane, non blended gas.

HEY yanks.... you gotta put units to those figures.... remember that the rest of the world does not use the same system...

20-21-22-23-24 ... what are you talking about.. miles?.. gallons? Litres? US gallons?

and how do you measure that ? by the in car computer? or by the actual pump volume and the odometer distance?

the numers are kinda useless on their own.
My trip computer is waaaaaaay off from the actual distace driven and fuel used.

Bo - my 06 doesn't have a trip computer.  I calc my mileage the old-fashioned way - dividing the miles driven by the gallons of gas needed to fill her back up.  I took the car on a business trip to Cleveland, Ohio, and she actually got 27.35 MPG (US) on the leg up.  Coming back, I filled up with blended 92 octane gas near Cleveland, and, she got 25 MPG coming back.

02 2.5 manual with a combo of mostly motorway driving with some stop start round town thrown in, generally driven by the wife and usually in a granny like fashion ( till I get my hands on - then the fuel figures seem to fallllllll...........lol)
Averaging 23 UK MPG

Calculated as per old engineer........the old fashioned way

Currently I'm lucky to average 18mpg but thats with warming her up quite a bit...no highway all city...from michigan& to wisconsin^ and back I average about high 24 to 25 mpg at a steady 85mph...mix of city/highway steady 22.2...***&^%$#-see below

***-these numbers were calculated using the cars computer
&-all rights reserved to michigan
^-all rights reserved to wisconsin
%-using gallons
$-using american standards not the rest
#-no idea what that one is there for...

Oh yeah I did calculate the mpg by dividing miles driven and how many gallons used and the computer was actually quite close...last I checked!

You're right Bo........They cost it in litres / imperial gallons
Currently £1.06 a litre
We all pretty much still talk about mpg over here though, or so many gallons. Very few use the metric litre speak when talking about this kinda stuff.

Hey Bo, you got to be more polite man when answering what do you think he meant 22 liters per 100km come on? Smartass :)

I mean that so many people (even here in Canada where we have been metric for 40 years) proclaim their mileage proudly in mpg.

I ask how they calculate that and nobody seems to be able to offer a reasonable calculation. I tried to ask if the result was from the trip computer or from mileage travelled divided by fuel used. This was because my trip computer is wrong by at least 10%

Keep in mind also that US gallons and Imperial gallons are different also.
there are 4.54 litres in an imperial gallon, and 3.79 litres in a US gallon.
People who think in Imperial gallons go a whole lot further per gallon than in US gallons.

The calculation is important. and I dont think many people can do the calculation in their head. and people throw around numbers without any backing....

Litres/100km is a little easier to calculate, since we run around 10-12 litres/100km, most people can calculate that in their head. I learned my times tables up to 12x12 back in grade 4.
