My car shifts very smoothly (like buttah

) and I dont notice any issues under normal driving conditions. However, push it a little off the line and as it shifts through the gears there is a hesitation between gears as it "thinks" about shifting. I have never noticed this delay in an automatic before. In other cars, the next gear is always right there - zip, zip, zip through the gears. Honestly, it's a little annoying - you get great take-off, then loose "oomph" as it decides to shift into the next gear, then, zoom again, loose oomph, (shift), zoom. WTF? It feels just like I am riding in a stickshift car. Is this phenomenon normal in an XJR? (BTW, it does it whether it's in sport or normal mode.)

The gearbox ecu learns your style of driving and changes to suit it, hence if you change your driving style often from driving miss daisy to schumacher - esque, it takes a while to adapt. I have had this happen but it does then stabilise for me if I drive in a consistent style. If it is doing it all the time regardless of how you are driving there may well be something wrong.

My 2001 xjr does the same thing... it does not seem normal at all. I have heard about the whole adaptive tranny thing... but i don't think that is it. When accelerating quickly off the line... around 3000rpm the car "loses" itself. Then about 4-6 seconds later kicks in and goes... VERY annoying and it has been several months not... no codes and no one can find the issue. Only I have to pay the labour rate... no outcome... and heres your car back... any ideas??

After I noticed my car was shifting strangely (hesitatingly) under harder accelleration, the "restricted performance" warning light started coming on intermittently at first, then more often. I finally took it to the dealer and they said the fuel psi was below spec under hard accelleration. They performed a throttle body cleaning (though I had already done that and it was whistle clean). Then they performed a fuel service which included a new fuel filter. Man, whatta difference! The car shifts beautiflully, even when I stand on the accellerator through all gears! It's like my car has been reborn!
