transmission fault 2002 xtype

i own a 2002 jag xtype, auto with 70k miles.
 
i drove the jag yestrday and parked it, applied the ebrake and went inside.
 
came out this morning and could not start it.
had battery check, which was fine.
 
then i noticed a display that read transmission fault on the display screen.
also, i could not remove it from park.
 
can anyone help me.
