I need to check the transmission fluid in my 2000 S-Type with a 4.0L engine. I don't see the dip stick to check it and what type of transmission fluid is used in this trasmission?

Thanks

You have to drop the pan or use a suction device. As accomplished as I am at pulling wrenches, this is a specialist job. Tranny shop or Ford/Jag dealer to service the tranny. Mercon fluid btw.

Really hard to check the trans fluid.  You have to drop the pan to change the fluid and you will need mercron fluid.  The real challenge is getting the fluid back in the tranny.  There is no dipstick or any place except on the actual side of the tranny to get the fluid back in.  We made a homemade plastic pump and a rubber line to get the fluid back in.  It wasn't a hard job, just tedious

dont really need to rempve pan.. just drain and refill.. .  measure what you take out and put in the same amount.. at the same temp a..  that will give you close enought then do the fluid check at 38 celsius
