I have a 2000 XJ8 with 77k miles, tranny went.  Anyone gone down the path of buying a rebuilt one on line, ie, ebay?

Also, how can I confirm exactly what type of tranny is in the car, the aamco guy said it could be a ford transmission??????

Well, all the more reason than to steer clear of aamca.

I have identified a tranny source, re www.alpinetranssupply.com, will sell for $1,895 plus $300 freight, $1k core charge (refundable).  Labor out here to swap trannay about $450.

I understand this thing holds about 13 quarts of tranny fluid,, and its a zf type (which I understand is hard to find/$20/qt).  THe guy at alpine mentioned that penzoil has a multi-vehicle fluid that suppsidly works with a zf tranny, and I say a case of it at pep boys yesterday for $50.  Has anyone heard about this?

Thanks

Ron
