Vapor Lock

I am having fuel issues with my 89 XJ40. It acts like a vapor lock. I replaced the fuel pump and it did not correct the problem. The Haynes manual said installing dual fuel pumps will correct the issue. My question is do you install the pumps in series (in-line) or parrallel.
