Hi, I'm new with a 98 Vanden Plas I just bought. I get a slight vibration at 50-55 mph and then a much bigger vibration at 80-90 mph. All other speeds are smooth. Are there any problems inherent to this model that I should investigate? Thanks!

GCornwell,
During the vibration periods, do you hear any unusual noises? Like a droning sound?
FYI-I'm currently chasing a droning sound with my '04 XK8...just thought our respective problems might have similar origins. We'll see.

Xj has bushing wear problems and tires will do it too. XJ of your year will normally make noise if bearings bad but not always.

Dear Jag Tech,
Which bushings are you referring to?
I think I'll jack up each front wheel to check for excessive play.

Front lower control arm bushings. See if they have any cracks in the rubber.
Mostly tires cause the vibration, but also brakes could be warped or have foreign matter on them.

Ah, the brake discs; yep, might be them. I still have the original brake discs, and especially the fronts are pretty badly grooved and I can feel some warpage, especially first thing in the morning.
Since I'm intending to keep to car a few more years and run it to about 150K miles, I intend to replace front and rear discs, pads, and sensors soon...just waiting until I do my taxes and have a "spare" $1300 or so.
Thanks.
