I'm handling the sale of my deceased grandmother's Jaguars and I can't figure out what model/engine I've got.
It's a 1996 Vander Plas, I believe XJ-Series. The cover on the engine says 4.0, but I can't find any other markings.
Can anyone help me figure it out?

hi,
its actually an XJ6 or Jaguar factory code....X300 , with a 4ltr straight six engine ( AJ6 ?) , this car was the one after the XJ40 though shared many similarities, and the XJ8 replaced it in 1997
your Vanden-plas spec is very similar the the Daimler jags in the UK

I sold it for $7,300 in great shape. It had a small dent on the trunk and a few nicks and dings, but overall very good shape and only 15,000 miles. Blue Book was $7,300 for a dealer sale, so it seemed like a great price to me, but I started getting a lot of calls and suspect there is something about this car that makes it more valuable than Blue Book suggested.
