If you happen to be in London this weekend, stop by the Classic & Sports Car Show and you’ll get to witness a special treat.

Among all the supercars and classics on display, you’ll also get to see a special live restoration of a Jaguar XK120 with bodywork by venerable Italian coachbuilder, Pininfarina. With specialists from Classic Motor Cars working throughout the event, it will mark the first time in 40 years that the 1954 XK will be shown in public.

As The Telegraph points out, this XK was built for U.S. importer Max Hoffman, and was displayed at the 1955 Geneva motor show. This is believed to be the only XK120 ever produced by Pininfarina, and is therefore exceptionally rare, not just among XKs, but among all Jags.

The Pininfarina XK will take center stage at a special part of the Show, which will highlight the ins and outs of car restoration. Mechanics from CMC will also be restoring a 1955 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT. Onlookers will get to see the technicians at work, and are invited to ask questions as well.

“We often get to see the before and after images of these incredible restorations, but don’t get to see or fully appreciate the skill that goes into each element, from the body and trim to the engine,” says James Elliot, Classic & Sports Car editor.

Live restoration? What a concept. Sounds like a great addition to any auto show, especially a restoration project as worthwhile as a Pininfarina XK120. Right?
