Default gearbox abs stability dsc issues

Hi all, new member here.
I have read many articles reg the problems i have but cannot get a diffinative cause.
I have been to local auto box guy, new box suggested without any diagnostics or even looking at the faults on the dash.
August 2006 2.7 s type 74500 miles full jag history
Engine running fine before faults and still starts and runs fine.
Here is how things developed.
1 car running perfect
2 car laid up 6 months
3 battery flat so fully charged.
4 car started, following faults
A. abs fault
B. dsc not available
C. cannot set park brake ( cleared as per instructions found on site)
5. put into reverse ( slight lurch) gearbox fault warning.
6. had codes read and cleared ( only diffinative fault is right rear abs sensor, removed and checked visually, clean and reluctor ring not cracked but cleaned anyway, new one on order
7. drove car, abs and dsc not available back on but no gearbox fault, changing ok without lurch.
8. drove car for about 2 hours no gearbox fault.
9.next morning all faults returned.
10. battery checked engine off 12.03 volts, new battery installed, faults cleared, car started all faults present with gearbox fault coming up after 5 min driving.
Please see attachment for faults, abs fault not listed.

Cannot believe gearbox shot judt by parking up so long.

Abs sensor giving gearbox fault y/n ?

Any help would be great, car mint and would hate to scrap but with used prices is it economically viable.

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob, welcome to the club. So, are these the only codes you have logged? Nothing else logged for engine faults? Also, any signs of fluid leaks from trans area? I'll look up the P0701 on Monday. I've seen the gear incorrect ratio codes before, but don't usually see the output speed sensor code. Have seen on occasion where a solenoid or internal trans harness can cause these issues. What abs codes do you have?

No sign of any oil leaks / drips on garage floor.
No engine faults noted, picks up great until gearbox fault comes up.
They guy did not write down the abs code but defo rear right sensor.
Only those gearbox fault codes.

Cannot believe it is just because parket up 6 month.

Abs sensor contributing / causing fault ?

Rgds

It's not the parking up (other than battery) but could be related to it e.g. mouse has chewed cable or spider in connector or damp got in somewhere - etc.

You might try posting in the right forum on the UK site as there are many diesel owners there.

Hi,
Not done anything yet due to being away for some time, will be a few more months till i get around to it.
Have new battery so will slow charge it first then try it.
Clean and connect up pos /neg teminals for a few min before installing the battery.
If still problem i will change the right rear abs sensor.
Failing this a dont know, maybe get the gearbox brain flashed ???????

having new wheel sensor fit today being told this is prob reason gearbox playing up as it cant read the wheel speed. example if your cornering one wheel is turning slower or faster than the other so the gearbox wont change gear whilst cornering mechanics amswer. so if you have have a faulty wheel sensor the gearbox has no idea what the wheel is doing so goes into safe mode.the 1st clue you have wheel sensor not working is abs/dsc fault hope this helps so wheel sensor being fit today hope no other issues

Hi
Thanks for that, i have heard that before from a couple of guys however the s type i had before this one had the right rear abs sensor go out but did not affect the gearbox, changed the sensor and no further issues on braking side
Hope your sensor vhange out cures it
And mine also when i get round to it.
Mine starts up and bumps into 1st and reverse, approx 3k rpm in limp mode in default gear only.
Let me know how you get on, good luck.

Bob

That was the answer, except my problem was with the left rear. Otherwise all the symptons were the same. Replaced the abs sensor and wire brushed the reductor ring (had to look elsewhere to find out how to disengage the parking brake). Thanks for the input. As the original message had been about the right rear, maybe it means that both rear sensors keep the gearbox informed of what is happening with wheel-turn. The workshop manual does not spell it out!!!

Many thanks gr1 Had exactly the same symptoms you described and was able to tell the garage. They doubted it when I had 6 computer warning codes for the gearbox alone and told me it was a fault with the gearbox. I argued the point and after they spoke to a gearbox expert he agreed that it probably was the sensor. All fixed now with a new sensor and a cost of £201.04 which I thought was about right compared to your £150 in 2016. Thanks again.
