Default Blue Devil Rear Main Sealer

Hello, all,

Jags are notorious for rear main oil leaks and my Series II E Type is no exception. Fortunately, its not much but I still prefer an oil drip free garage floor.

Has anyone tried this product which claims to stop rear main seal leaks?

Welcome to the forum rahudson,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to E-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Default blue devil

I used it on a newly rebuilt engine that had sat for a year. Worked great, and has not leaked yet after oil changes!

Normally these "magic" oil leak cures work by softening the neoprene lip-type seal for engines that have these. However the Jaguar XK engine has a rope-type rear main seal, (a pre-war design), that works in conjunction with a scroll machined on the crank surface where the seal bears. The front seal is the lip-type seal so this stuff probably works on that. On my MG Midget, my mechanic put some stuff in to cure oil leaks but whilst it did some good, it has now "worn off" so I am back to oil on the ground. Shortly the car will be in the shop having new oil seals all round.

Some cars of old design (BMC 'A'series engines for instance), didn't even have the rope in the rear seal, with total reliance being put on the scroll to force oil back into the engine. OK for new engines maybe, but when there gets to be a bit of piston blow-by, oil tends to get forced out at every weak spot.

I tried the Lucas-brand sealant, and if anything, drips are worse....So a pan drop is in my future.
