Default Engine heat burning bonnet paint

Hey All

There's a silver Series II on eBay now, where paint has chipped off just on the louver areas of the bonnet. I am wondering if it's likely a paint defect or, historically there have problems with too much heat coming off that straight six.
If it's an engine issue I won't touch it...and no PPis until after auction!
Thanks,

David

the exhaust is right under the driver's side bonnet vent, so there can be paint issues in that area. Some owners add a heat shield above the exhaust to reduce the paint damage risk.
