Default fastener identification

Hi, I just purchased a 1966 OTS and the car is completely disassembled and the fasteners were not labelled. I would like to put the car together enough to mount wheels and tires and steering, along with the bonnet. Is there a resource available that shows the fastener size and type in the detail required to re-assemble these major structural parts?

Welcome to the forum LutzE,

If you don't have them already, you are going to need the Workshop and Parts Manuals. The diagrams in the Parts Manual are very useful when trying to sort out unlabelled parts. These were available on CD from Jaguar Heritage but could be out of stock.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

added an intro post, thanx

I have the service manual but not the parts manual. I see the restoration parts catalogs are pretty detailed, would that be enough if I go page by page to inventory the 1966 OTS boxes of parts?

Do the official Jaguar parts manual exploded views detail the exact bolt by location?

I've checked with Jaguar Heritage and the E-Type Parts and Service Manuals are no longer available on CD/DVD.

Their CD reference was JHM1119 - E-Type Series I & II 1961-1970 Parts & Service Manuals. You can download it from the forum MediaFire account by following this link:

It's a 122mB RAR file which has to be unzipped and either burned to CD or installed on a PC.

thanx this is perfect. As I suspected, I found the dreaded bag-o-bolts in one of the boxes. But the parts list gives the Jaguar fastener code for all of the bolts so I should be able to pick out the set for each assembly and get crackin this weekend.

thanx, I downloaded the parts and assembly manual. I have also found that the parts catalogs available now show all of the exploded views with bolts identified.

Default bolts n brackets and things ID help

this is the first large bag o bolts. After looking at the parts manual I think bolts are ID'd enough that I can pick the correct size bolt and nut from a pile. But the brackets I will have quite a search. It would be great if the members here could ID the subsystem each of these brackets belongs to so I can kit up the brackets and bolts for the next guy. thanx in advance.

looks like this is the front subframe bolt set. the flat oval with 2 holes goes between the engine frame and the picture frame. I will need to find the second one in the pile. still dont know where the gold bracket goes. picture is from here

Almost all bolts and screws will be UNF, with those going into threaded alloy parts UNC. A lot of Lucas electrical stuff is BA threaded.

You can buy thread gauges which will identify the thread pitch, which you then look up on a thread table.
