Default heat soak

I just thought I would share some details about heat soak in my car since the summer weather is upon us. Added sources of a hot interior can be a failing bypass valve, poorly functioning air duct shut off flap. If both of those are working properly, then heat can still transfer inside form the transmission, exhaust pipes under the floor, pipes behind the dash, and heat transfer from the firewall. Even the air coming from the nose of the car can be heated on its travel though the air ducts, into the cabin.
In my car when the air was set to full outside air, bypass valve was off, and hoses were clamped shut to guarantee no water flow, I still had a 12 - 15 degree increase in the temp of the air flowing though the ductwork and into the cabin. Once I closed off the air so nothing could travel from the nose into the system and open windows, I had only the tranny and exhaust heat transfer adding about 5 degrees to the cabin. My next winter project will be to improve tranny tunnel and floor insulation.

Alfred, IMHO, I drive my ETYPE coupe 6 to 8 thousand miles per year.
Dynamat Extreme is the way to go.
Its twice as expensive but can be cut, molded or bent anyway possible.
From the door sills to the fire wall around the tunnel the car will transform into a 1990's ish sound deadening.
Also if you drive long like myself, 1,200 to 1,500 mile runs your emergency lever wont turn into a hot curling iron!
I had original batting then more modern batting, they are sooooo old and non useful.
Dynamat extreme, you wont be sorry, p.s. if you put it inside the doors, youll think they shut like a rolls Royce.

I second the Dynamat idea. Worked in the defense industry for years and we used that in some very odd applications. Great for stopping heat AND noise.

thanks for the advise, another winter job to put on the list. What surprised me was how hot the outside air got travelling from the nose into the cabin. It's only 6 ft to the cabin and 4 - 6 ft of ducts after that and it still absorbs an extra 12 - 15 degrees of heat. Maybe a Vintage Air unit is coming for Christmas.
