Default Nürburgring Tourist Drive for Jags - 6+7 April 2013

Yes that's right, the Nürburgring. The Nordschleife. The Green Hell.

Looking to make a road trip in conjunction with some guys from the UK, meet up at the 'ring & do a few tourist laps.

Probably the weekends of 23-24 March, 30-31 March or 6-7 April, could also be on a Friday.

At the moment the dates for Tourist Rides in March & April are not available, but we will know for sure in early Feb.

So, who's interested?

You don't have to go nuts round the 'ring, and we should all come back alive & with our cars unscathed. To drive the Nürbürgring is on my bucket list, & if i'm honest this might be the only chance i ever get.

Tourist rides Nordschleife*- Nürburgring

So, this is a call out to everyone in Europe, and the UK guys too, Ring Roadtrip

I'm up for that if I'm in country.
Any worries about poor track conditions at that time?

If work permits, I would like to join in.

Weather might be an issue, but since I assume, that we'll all be on winter tires and (for me at least) are not planning on setting a new record lap, that should be possible.

Edit:
There is an official Jaguar facility at the ring - would be interesting to know, if a large enough group would trigger some kind of reaction (e.g. like a visit, f they don't have to many secret projects there).

I will be going to the 'ring sometime before May no matter what, for reasons already mentioned. The proposed dates are not fixed, the 30/31 might be out because of Easter. Maybe a little later in April, but we have to put something out there as a start.

It's impossible to predict the weather for end March / early April so far out, it could be fine, it could be terrible. Historical averages are 2°/10°C for 3rd week March, to 3°/12°C for 1st week April. Cold doesn't matter too much, but if it's wet

I for one have no intention of damaging my pride & joy, so i'll be driving to the conditions, whatever they might be. I have no winter tyres for the XJR but if the X-Type sells this weekend then I will have to get some.

If there is a sizeable group then I will contact Jaguar & see if we could tee something up, it would be good PR and also make the trip more worthwhile for us all.

If the group gets too big then we might have to look at actually booking the track just for us, which is also a possibility. If that's the case then i'd expect Jaguar to get involved too.

Let see how many are interested.

@Cambo351:
Sounds like a plan.

Just an idea:
To approach more members, shouldn't the planned event also be in other sub-forums? Maybe the Off-Topic area?
I actually just "stumbled" into this thread, since I was looking was other information and normally rarely visit the Europa area. Might be the same with others...

Let's hope we can get it off the ground Percy.

Yes I know there's not much traffic through here, but it's the correct place to post this meet.

I've added a link to my signature, hopefully that catches some more attention.

Some other things to consider for the trip;

The actual laps (i'd say 4x) wouldn't take longer than a few hours if we take breaks in between.

It's €95 for four laps, and you also get a ring°werk ticket and a discount on renting an onboard camera, i think...

Other things to do;

ring°werk - which is like a museum / fair, re-opens on 23rd march Attractions*- Nürburgring
ring°kartbahn - Go Kart track, would also be a hoot for a few hours ring°kartbahn*- Nürburgring
Cochem - 30mins from the ring, medieval town, with a castle that's open to the public as a museum Cochem Castle
Burg Eltz Castle - about 30mins from Cochem, also does tours Castle Eltz

And as already mentioned maybe we could tee something up with Jaguar themselves?

Agree four laps sounds good but it would be great to motivate a bunch of folk to meet up there.
There are ways of selectively carpet bombing forum members - but let's get the thing more organised before doing so.

Dates for the Tourist rides have been published Opening times Nordschleife - Nürburgring

Weekend of March 23/34 might be out since the Tourist Ride on the Saturday is only for 1 hour in the evening. Sunday is the whole day though.

Weekend of March 30/31 is Easter, which might be tough for those with families, but good for those who don't since it's already a 4-day weekend.

I'm thinking April 6/7. Need to check with the other lads who were interested.

For me, 6/7 April, as well as Eastern would work, but since the trend is to the April date, I'm fine with that. ;-)

At that time of the year, I think weather could be fine, since it would be after the German "O to O" rule (winter tires from October to Ostern (Eastern). :-)
Could be wet though.

My winter setup will be unsuitable for the 'ring (rears rub on the wheel archs) so i'll be back on the summer setup for 6/7 April.

Seems we should lock this date in?

I was there in the end of april 2005 and at that time the weather was good and I got even somewhat sunburned! It´s also a very nice part of Germany to travel around. Also not far from Spa Francorchamps in Belgium.

It´s a once in a lifetime experience. After the first lap you make you will be very thirsty! During the second lap you think you are the champion but forget it, you are not alone on the track keep looking for guys with bikes!!

Good luck from BosseH

OK so lock in 6/7 April.

I've contacted Jaguar Customer Service to see if we can arrange a tour of the Jag facilities there, maybe scam a ride in the XJ Supersport Ring Taxi. Waiting to hear back.

I will also contact the editor of Jaguar World Monthly, see if they are interested in sending someone along to take pics / write an article for the magazine.

With the date locked in it's time to start promoting this event on a bigger scale. PM's to all members in the UK & Europe? Or can we make a global post / sticky as an announcement?

I have a list of around 13 cars so far (including the guys in the UK) so looks promising.
