Default Why do people tint their windows?

Don't you want people to see that you are the owner of your car? Your not a celebrity or some famous guy, so what is it with people tinting their windows?

I´m a white guy and i´m not dressed as a gangster and my windows are tinted becuse it looks good. I´ts only 30% so you can till look inside but not at night time.

The car is black had a silver one before but that one i newer tinted because i don´t think it looks that good on a silver car.

There are som other pros aswell
1. The windows becoms a lot hrder to break if somebody wants to brake in to your car and if the window brakes it will be alot less shattered class flying around.

2. Less wear from the sun on the interior.

3 Coler inside of the car so that the AC does not have to work s o hard to keep your car cool and that gets not so dry air and more mpg

Carsmart, I tint the windows on all my vehicles. Where I live, there are a lot of people that drive around with their brights on all the time. They can run up on my bumper and I don't even have to flip my mirror. Also, it helps keep the inside of the car cooler (as mentioned above). I also tend to run higher end stereo stuff. So, by having tinted windows, it makes it a lot harder for any would-be thief to figure out what you have and if it is worth stealing.

Tinted windows are helpful for those who have kids as well. Wouldn't want the sun to get into their eyes or have them overheat if they happen to fall asleep.

Here in New Mexico, the summers are hot and sunny...tinted windows, as ID said, provide heat control. More tinting, less heat inside the car when the window are rolled up. Plus, for me, depending on the color of the car and the tint, it can be as appealing visually as a paint job, shiny chrome, or any other personalization on your car.

Same reasons mentioned above by everyone else and I'm not what you claim always has tinted windows. Most of the time I'm in my Jag I'm in ACU's or dress Green Uniform....

I just got a ult black/black XK and went right to the tinting place. I got 35% tints. It looks really dark but when people are sitting inside you can still see them unless it's night time. Honestly, it looks really good, it makes the car really sleek, but dosen't look gangsta, it looks classy. I'm white and I usually dress in woven shirts, ties, t-shirts on the weekends.

I think everyone should do some sort of low-tint for the benefits of sun not beating down on the interior.

I really wanted the platinum tint on my VDP, but found out it could screw up the GPS. Tint has its merits for sure. Personally, I do not like the way it looks and usually ends up bubbling at some point. My parents' cars have always been tinted.

Why is it a stupid thing to say? If he is a celebrity, then he was merely retorting to one of the OP's questions. (IF it truly IS Jason, then you need to watch MTV's "Pimp My Ride")

heres a SEMA vehicle i built for the Ford booth, i have plenty of pics to prove who i am if need be

This is a Mazda 5 that was built for a tattoo and piercing convention, i actually was tatooed on my back out of it, at the L.A. Auto Show in 2006.

This was a retro bar van inside, with a fully capable way of havoing a full band plug in and play. Also a demo vehicle at the L.A Auto Show in 2006.

Want more??? just ask

One more (as if the previous weren't enough...lol). Take a picture of yourself holding up a sign that says "m0t0rm0uth is my hero."

THEN I'll believe it's really you.

Ditto the stated reasons: reduce sun/heat damage, thwart glass breakage, thwart prying eyes especially those looking inside cars for things to steal. I've always had dark tint on all my Texas cars. Makes a black car look sleeker. Affords some privacy from all the stares and gawkers too.

I have an Estate model, in Canada it's illegal to tint the drivers and passengers front windows....at all, but I did the other 7 windows and the sunroof. Why, because it's looks cool, no other reason simply because it looks cool. I don't sit in the back seats, will probably never have to sleep back there, don't care enough about the rear seat passengers and how much sun they get so, yeah I did it cause it looks cool.
