Default Canada - JLR dealerships - oil / filter change cost

Living in Toronto, Canada, normally I do my own oil changes on our cars (have access to hoist at buddy's auto garage) - and usually pick up (at drastically reduced prices compared to buying in Canada) oil in the USA, on my regular drives across the border to NY state. Seeing from other threads on this site, looks like JLR holds customers hostage (at least during warranty period) by requiring oil (0W20 for Canada) to meet ST JLR.51.5122 specs - essentially only Castrol Edge Professional E 0W-20 (note: has to be "E" and not "OE" which is considerably cheaper) that is only available thru dealerships. Couple questions for Canadian, and ideally Toronto area F Type owners. 1) What is the cost at a JLR dealership for an oil / filter change and 2) was not told by my salesman, but seem to recall reading, that in Canada (different than in the USA) the 1st service appointment is free (usually best to wait for a "real" appointment rather than using the 1st appointment only for oil). Is that correct?

Don't know the cost for the oil change yet, but yes, the first service is free. We don't have the four year maintenance like the US, just have the one year. Taking my car in on Wednesday for a wonky front parking sensor so I'll ask what the cost is.

Thanks and look forward to your findings.

The first free scheduled maintenance will be an oil change. The cabin filter replacement was changed now to be after two years.

An oil change is $420 plus tax.

But only half as nuts as the guy that was charged $850 for a routine service. There must be something else in the $420 than just oil and filter.

Holy smoke. Pricey... Just in case the $420 included a back massage and dinner for two somewhere I called Budds in Oakville. For the 3.0 litre 6, cost is CAD$450 plus tax, and no massage or dinner included

Like anything else...call around and NEGOTIATE.

you can buy the oil and filter from the dealer for about $110 and do it yourself.

The second year service is more than just an oil change, I think it includes a brake fluid change and all filters.

Only if you have a vacuum oil pump to suck out the used oil. My understanding is there is no convenient drain plug to work with.

There's something wrong. Price for oil and filter only should be $150ish. Sure they're not throwing in a windshield wiper alignment and top up of the blinker fluid?

I took my car in for an early oil change at 3K and was charged about $180. The service manager suggested I pay for the oil change only because, "the annual service is considerably more extensive and costly and you don't want to waste your free service on that." He went on to explain that in addition to oil and filter, they do various diagnostics and system checks. He said it would be approximately $400, and that an annual service was required to ensure the warranty stays in effect.

I have no clue how accurate his explanation was and what they actually do, but just passing on the explanation I received. I did wait until the one year anniversary to get the free visit and did receive an extensive checklist of what they said they inspected, which was basically all major systems.

I'm fully capable of doing oil changes myself, even with an oil evacuator, which I have, but I look at the "annual service" as an insurance policy that the warranty won't be contested later in the event of a major repair. I'd hate to only have receipts for an oil and filter purchase as my evidence that the annual service was done. I want it entered into the JLR computer system as proof.

That's pretty much what it is unfortunately....

P.S. There was a TSB they did today for the locking torque on a steering rack nut or something like that.
