I'm reading this thread with great interest coming from an electronics background.

Regarding the fuse; Many manufacturers do this 'one prong' connection fuse holder connection for options, e.g. Switchable active exhaust, this may or may not be fitted to your particular model. They just leave the other side and associated loom out of the car at build if it is not part of the spec.

If you haven't done so already, then I would pay the subscription for the workshop manual, and have that downloaded as I think you'll find it invaluable. It would also help you identify various fuses and wire colours for sorting bits out in the future.

I will have a look through my manual, but I think it will be different as ours is the V8R.

Good luck with the interesting project, and please, of you get chance post up pictures of your progress.

Thanks for your interest Tel - here's some pics prior to any work done ....... Since then, airbags / dashboard all done ..... Wheels done ...... Bodywork (bonnet / bumper / headlight and bits and bobs) done and in paint shop just now .... The impact would have been significant to make the airbags fire but the car is straight - no chassis problems... and the bodywork fitting / lining up hasn't been too bad ..... Ill post some pics when she's back from the paint shop ......

This is the ABS module that had 'melted' (see top right hand side) ..... The plug had melted onto the unit making a real mess of it so Ive sourced a unit from a breaker with the plug included (a 2016 model). Interestingly the VIN of the car it came off is an older production car (despite it been registered after mine) - they are the same year car etc etc .... and having spoke to the dealership, they tell me the part number of the unit I have bought is T2R22164 and the part that's burnt out on mine is T2R22161 ..... They say it 'should' be OK .... We shall see ..... Any thoughts ?? According to some internet research the T2R22161 should fit any VIN after F22185 which both cars are .......

Thanks for posting the pictures AG.
Compared to some of the salvage cars for sale on the net, I think you have got a good sensible project there.

I'm a bit confused as to why the ABS module would self destruct, unless the impact pinched a couple of the feed wires together, but it's mile away from anywhere if memory serves me?

Hi,

Yes the ABS module is behind the passenger side wing (UK passenger side) ..... I can only think that the wires have shorted during the impact - The ABS fuse has blown aswell (but maybe not until the plastic of the module shorted) .......

I have a new plug with 'ponytail' to splice in to the loom and will check wiring / fuses prior to the new ABS module final connection ....

You can see from earlier in the thread how the car looked when I bought it for repairs ..... It was a non starter and the airbags had fired ..... Here's the story of what needed doing ...

- Airbags and new top of dashboard fitted
- Airbag module couldn't be reset of crash data by anybody so I had to purchase a new module from Jaguar
- Bodywork / Headlight work was undertaken prior to the electric work / resets been undertaken
- It was apparent during bodywork that the ABS module and plug had melted and was completely unuseable. I sourced a replacement module and plug from the web and spliced the plug (with its 19 wires) onto the cars main loom. New module worked fine
- 4 wheels refurbished
- Car went into a specialist for the electrics resetting ..... airbag module was programmed / ABS module was coded to the car and all error codes were removed .....
- Its an AWD car so had it 4 wheel aligned ..... Needed a new track rod and track rod end .... alignment was complete

So the car is now on the road ...... Everything works .... No creaks / no rattles and it drives tight .......

I just have one issue left ....... the car drives straight ..... No judder at any speed and it seems to handle fine ..... but the steering wheel doesn't completely return to centre after turning (by about an inch) ...... I'm sure this must be related to the initial crash damage but can't seem to locate what the issue is ...... There are no funny noises coming from any of the components as far as I can make out and the suspension components all seem solid and fine ......

Any ideas????

I have the same problem. Bought an accident damaged F Type 3LS. Now fully repaired and drives beautifully. Ive replaced both seatbelts and drivers seat airbag, which went off in the accident. The problem is the seatbelt warning light and a warning message are on the dashboard which can't be removed by a local garage. Possibly new airbag module needed, what do i need to remove to replace it with the new one. And how much are they ? Once fitted does it have to go to a Jaguar dealer to be reprogrammed ?

Hi

The airbag module will need either replacing or resetting ...... the lights will remain on until this is done. If your vehicle is 2015 or earlier then you should be able to get it reset (many places online will be able to do that for you if you send them the module. If it's 2016 or later it's a newer module and this was the case for me ..... I had to buy a new module from jaguar (about £230 from memory) and get it reprogrammed to the car.

This reset or new module will then allow the airbag light to be reset - assuming all the airbags are functioning correctly.

Hope that helps.

A jaguar specialist will be able to programme the new module cheaper than a dealer ..... the module is at the back of the centre console buried which will need to be removed to get to it.

Thank you very much for that. Did you get your steering wheel in the right position ? Sounds like its been tracked without the steering wheel being centralized.

HI - I hope you found the airbag module ...... When I replaced mine ...... I took the back of the centre console out ...... Moved the Sat Nav module up into the space at the back and then there is a metal cover which needs unbolting and taking out. The airbag module has 3 bolts securing it which are sunken ...... but easily accessible with a ratchet .....

Once its loose - there are 2 plugs that plug into it - both easily removeable ..... Then its the reverse process to fit a new one ...... It's a bit fiddly, but I did it a few times as I was trying to get mine reset (without luck) ..... Takes about half hour ...... If you get stuck, please get in contact and I'll try and help further ....

Mine is now my daily driver ........ drives great ....... the 1 thing I have left to sort is the intermittent steering problem I described ...... It's fine most of the time but occasionally gets stiff and 'sticky' ..... Had 4 wheel alignment done and that all checks out ...... but I'm getting an occasional 'excess friction in steering rack' error under diagnostics so will be sorting shortly.

Good luck with the module .....

Default What stopped it from running

Was it the abs or air bag module that stopped her firing up [/SPOILER]
