Help me figure out how to afford an F-Type

You are no doubt correct. Unless you go through the necessary pedal dance to activate launch control on the automatic (which the base might not even have) your engine speed is not optimized for maximum engine torque at launch. With a manual clutch, we can apply maximum engine torque at any road speed (at the expense of expended clutch material). Also , don't forget to shut down the DSC to at least the Trac setting if you want some wheel spin.

Traction control on this car is very good. Pair it with automatic, and you could go nuts with the throttle and car will translate it into sane driving inputs without you ever realizing that it is cutting throttle and selectively applying brakes to keep it going in a straight line.
Try turning off traction control completely - hold traction button for 10 seconds. Then stomp on accelerator. It is trivially easy to overcook it.
Make sure not to wreck the car doing this, as your rear end will skid right then catch traction and steer your car hard left. If you over-correct, you will end up in a drift, and if you don't transition out of drift correctly you will spin the car.
The base car has plenty of power, both MT and Auto to spin the wheels.

The idea that someone cannot find the power to chirp their wheels is laughable. I don't mean that in a mean spirited way, and I haven't read far enough back to know if there's any contentiousness in this thread..... but I'm a base manual and I have to admit I chirp/hop my rears nearly every time I'm off a line. lol I guess I should calm down.

Hmmmm... not sure if this one is wrecked or a flood car, but it does seem like depreciation will take a big hit on the manual cars. Perhaps a used one will be within reach ($30-40k) in a year or two!

It's not apples to apples, but I got a great deal on a Base Coupe (auto) almost 2 months ago (<$450/mo including tax for 12k mi/yr). I was also considering a dealer loaner Base Convertible (auto) in FL that was also just under $450/mo + tax with 10k mi. There are deals to be had depending on your credit, monthly promotions, negotiating skills, and how badly a dealership wants to get rid of a manual sports car during the winter.

amcdonal86:
I'm sure you're not forgetting the "personal property tax" on cars in VA...
Depending on what you get, and what county you garage it in, expect another $1000~2000 each year for that.
I think we're the worst state for "car tax"

I am a base 2016 manual at 34K miles with respectful usage, but definitely used on spirited road trips. BRG w/ tan top, "camel" or tan performance seats.
How much is my car worth? If paid off, is it worth selling to a wanting F-Type owner, and investing that payment into a new one?

That would be another advantage to me buying used versus leasing new. In Virginia, you pay personal property tax on the full value of a car regardless of whether or not it is leased.
