Attention - guest unregistered member 21/8/2012
Dear Guest,
please see below the main differences of being logged in as a "guest" member as opposed to that of a fully fledged "registered" member.
I've also taken the liberty of showing some of the main differences between the "registered" and "full access" members here on JF.
I myself, logged in as a guest / unregistered member to check on the overall forum experience here.
As good as it was being able to view the forum content, please rest assured, it is a very very basic allowance and you are missing out on so much more here at JF.
Unregistered / Guest
Allowed to view the forum and its content in basic format
Registered member
View forum and can use the email facility, download and upload attachments
Use of the search facility & being able to make a post as well as reply to others
Edit profile, access to album / garage & many other privileges
Full forum access member
All of the privileges associated with a registered member PLUS.....
Further editing and advanced search capabilities
Can rate / tag threads
Use of the pm system with a 500 limit
Can view member info and view / use calendar feature
Increases across the board in limits, downloads and file sizes etc
Access to our Mediafire account database with well over 1000 Files including Tsb's, manuals and handbooks, as well as many pictorial & video "how to" posts
with fixes for most of the common issues
Forum Vendor discounts
Entry to our FREE prize promotions that are run from time to time
PLEASE NOTE - ALL levels of membership here are FREE!!
Full Forum Access was a user group set up some years ago as a way of reducing the spammers on site. It was very effective and we have almost zero spam on JF.
If you haven't as yet seen for yourself, please believe me when I tell you, this is one of the friendliest forums around with some really knowledgable and extremely helpful members & techs.
Whether you're a forum junkie or a forum virgin, currently own a Jaguar or would like to at some point, you will be made welcome here.
Hope to welcome you soon as a registered member, then a full forum access member shortly after.
Please rest assured that once you sign up, like many others you will ask yourself why you didn't do it long ago.
If you are reading this as a registered member, and would like upgraded to Full Forum Access, simply make a post into the "New member section"
You will then be welcomed aboard and very quickly upgraded to FFA to enjoy all the benefits that become available
Thanks for your time in reading this.

Regarding the message:
"Attention - guest unregistered member 21/8/2012"
Which I dutifully read.
I need to say this is utterly confusing:
Does it apply to me?
What membership status do I hold?
How do I change to a level with greater privileges?
Why is this not auto-enacted if it's "all free".
Got me foxed!

Thanks to Jim's manual upgrade, you were a Registered member but are now a Full Forum access member and don't need to worry about the restrictions on guests.
If you'd posted in New Member Area - Intro a MUST section (New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum) to tell us something about yourself and your vehicle when you first signed up in March, you'd have got a proper welcome then together with some useful advice on posting to the forum.

Hi Peter, I must agree with Graham 100% on this I'm afraid.
The New members section - "New Member Area - Intro a MUST"
The "Must" isn't a Must do, or you will be banned, Its a helpful "Must" that will integragte you into the forum much more quickly AND make for a better all round experience.
We do try to highlight these points, we use bold lettering, italics, parts are underlined and or in red ink......There really isn't that much more we can do and keep our sanity.....lol
Sorry for the rant, but it can be quite frustrating when we really do try to help, but are sabotaged by new members who don't take the time to fully read the pointers that are given.
I hope that's answered your question Peter.......anything else, please just ask.
Thanks

Registration status change
Thanks guys for the reply & the upgrade.
I guess you have an investment in the site & I understand your annoyance that new members will not always behave as expected.
I guess I am not untypical - I am a member of more forums & groups than I can easily remember & some I visit only occasionally.
I came here initially to do a spot of Jag model research & did not have the time or motivation to do a an introduction.
Perhaps not very respectful but these things happen.
I still believe the message I posted about is utterly confusing it not entirely unnecessary.
BTW generally a great site although even as a Jag enthusiast I have simply lost track of model designations, what they mean: the year of manufacture & type of vehicle & I guess there is little anyone can do about that.
Thanks again,

Hi Peter, re the welcome & upgrade, no problem buddy.
Myself, most of the mods and a heck of a lot of veteran & senior members do really invest a lot of our free time to make the site the best it can be, as you say.
Every member does act / react differently, its just the way it is.
Not everyone makes an introduction, thats forum life......generally though, in the event that they do, their forum experience gets off to a better start.
Yes - the model designations can be confusing, but the year is there too which hopefully helps some?
Hope you enjoy the site Peter and all's well that ends well
