Default 1932 Daimler LQ3 information

Hi,

I have desperate need for technical information, handbook, workshop manuals anything to do with my new old baby.

She has been dry stored for over 30 years and the previous owner has completely overhauled the engine during this time , however the rest of the car is in a pretty bad shape albeit there is only surface corrosion. I need to get her running as a priority but although I am pretty handy when it comes to jag and daimler classics, venturing into the vintage era is giving me a few headaches such as fluid drives Wilson pre-select gearbox and one of the weirdest rear axle arrangements I have ever seen.

So if anyone can help with anything I would be happy to reward them for their time, paperwork or just data.

Thanks
Den.

Den,

Does the Daimler & Lanchester Owners Club ( Daimler & Lanchester Owners' Club ) not have relevant historic information or members with technical publications/expertise?

I'd better add that it's not mine nor am I in any way connected to the ebay listing.

Fair Dinkum.

Nice find, especially in that condition.

Finding info as Graham suggested, and good old "Google".

Amazing what is on there if you drink enough and look long enough.

You are going to be very occupied for some time, but good times occupied.

Is it a 'Bitza'? Many years ago I had a Triumph Renown Razor Edge which had a 4 cylinder Jaguar 1800cc engine and trans with a body built by Triumph. It came from the time when certain manufacturers such as Jaguar, Ford etc used to sell rolling chassis to body shops such as Daimler, Triumph etc.

Thanks Grant (mate) yes the more I look the coffee pot just empties itself maybe I should try fosters eh!
Very lucky with this one , previous owner did at least look after the engine (so he tells me,) Graham appears to have sourced a book , so great start.
Lots to do and clock is ticking perhaps the next time you pop down the road to Perth you could persuade my son to come home for a year or two to help out.haha.
Jags since 1970 but still got them all, what is your biggest regret , cars that is!
Need to learn how to add my cats to my profile.
Cheers and thanks a lot Den.

Hi Jim, no it's a full on Daimler , she is 6 cylinder 2.7ltr , chassis stamped and body bearing brass plaques with serials and patent numbers stated, but happy to bow to more experience as my other cars are classic and vintage is a whole new world for me, just hope I am up to it. I'm in Waterlooville so feel free to drop in if you are this way.
Thanks

Default Update to year of manufacture

I have received feedback that the lq3 20 hp was made in 1935, this appears to be the only year for this model and records show that only 307 were ever made. The data search continues

Thumbs up Update

Records show she was made in 1935 apparently the only year for this model, they only made 307, I am now trying to find other survivors. The hunt continues.

The Registration Number AHN 112 was issued by Darlington Borough Council. The first number in their allocated series (AHN 1) was issued in 1934 which ties in with the manufactured date you have found for your car.

I see you have two threads running on the same topic which is rapidly becoming confusing with duplication of information in each of them. I recommend merging them into a single thread and the one in General Tech Help is probably the best location. Let me know if you want me to do this for you.

Den,

I've merged your second thread from CLASSIFIEDS with this first one in General Tech Help and then removed the duplicates.

Daimler .... weren't they famous for producing the sleeve valve engine? I am not far away Den but my experience (over 50 years of it starting with coachbuilt cars) is all with 'normal' engine configurations. You rear axle might be a skew gear type (where the chassis runs underneath) so the floor is kept flat and the body is lowline.

Hi Jim thanks for yet another little piece in the jigsaw, yes I am similar as far as normal engine config, however I think/ hope I could get there if only more info was available, records show she has a poppet valve engine ???? have contacted DLOC no reply as yet, also beaulieu motor museum who are very interested in her and have promised to get their archive guy to contact me. My main concern is that the engine has been fully refurbished, bored, new pistons, crank and bearings built up and lapped about 30 years ago but never started. Bearing in mind how scarce these parts are if I break anything, I will end up having to put a 21/2 v8 in her, not ideal but better than nothing I guess. You say you are close, could I invite you for a coffee and look see some time to suit you, cover any expenses just happy to get another pair of eyes on her. Thanks again.den
