jaguar xj6 temperature
Hi,
My 1985 jaguar xj6 sovereign is showing approximately 60 degrees on the temperature gauge when it should be around the 80 to 90 mark changed the thermostat no change my question is what else should I check? or replace and is the car safe to drive long distances with the temperature being so low?

gooner,
I see you've previously posted in both XJ6 Series I, II & III and XJ40 tech forums. I think you have a Series III .........
......... and not an XJ40
Very confusing as Jaguar badged both models as XJ6 Sovereign!
Please confirm the model and I'll move your question to the right tech forum.

Is this car new to you? have you had the temp guage sitting at 80-90 before?
I wasnt believing my gauges when I first got my car and one of the things I bought was an infrared heat monitor. Just point and click at the object you want to measure , in this case the thermostat housing or top of the radiator. These are cheap as chips on Ebay.
If everything is running normally it may just be a faulty sensor/sender. They are pretty cheap so maybe worth while swapping it out to eliminate an item
