+1. But wait . . . there's more . . .
Maybe, just maybe . . . and I think it may have been said a few hundred times here already . . . it will take a revolution in physics and economics to come up with a package that offers better value and more solutions for the average "new to Jaguar" DIY owner/mechanic, than the ELM327 + phone App "Torque".
No it won't interrogate and diagnose the esoteric stuff much of which, quite frankly, is on systems that are beyond the capabilities or desire of most here to play with (eg the multitude of fitted airbags) . . . but powertrain, brakes and almost all electrical? Piece of cake.
With 4 of our Jags OBDII fitted, I have a dedicated SDS/IDS platform in the workshop, but . . . I fitted some early, tired Androids with new battery and Torque app, bought 4x ELMs and printed out 4x somewhat refined code charts . . . 1 for each glovebox. Total investment? Little more than AU$150 total, or less than AU$40 per vehicle.

Ken

Autel AL519 Problem
I purchased an Autel AL519 reader for my 1998 XK8. Nice unit and well packaged but being a Chinese company, the manual was somewhat poor. As recommended in the manual I went on the Autel support site and attempted to update the software since the CD included with the product was for Windows 7 and I am using Windows 10.
Followed the instructions and downloaded the update which was downloaded as a ZIP file. Windows 10 allows you to unzip files within the Windows 10 software. No dice and it would not unzip. Attempted this three times. Then I attempted to use WinZip which is on my PC and experienced the same problem. I have been using Win 10 since the beta version and have installed every update provided by Microsoft.
I called the Autel Tech Support line and was told to follow the steps in the manual. Gee! that is original. When I requested a return of the unit they sent an email outlining the same steps in the manual. So, under protest they send me a prepaid return label and back it goes.
Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone recommend a unit that is know to work with Windows 10?

Hello Kent, and greetings from down under.
Yours is now kinda 6 in a row early XK8s, all recently that are reporting issues trying a variety of OBDII scanners . . . a couple of Oz locals using ELM327, and 2 more nearby posts here using iCarsoft i930 and yours is the second having problems with Autel AL519. If I recall, the other poster had issue not with s/w installation, but with his unit reporting a communication failure. I am aware of more over the past year or so.
Now, I have no logical explanation, mine being an MY04 and I have seen no such issues with any MY03+ model. Equally, many have issues based on cars other than yours. I am meeting up with a couple of early XK8 owners this coming weekend to investigate what is going on. There is discussion (as yet unverified) that these early X100s depend on use and activation of a particular pin which on many scanners is simply not utilized. This sounds very weird to me as the OBDII protocols for both h/w & s/w have been applied universally since the mid to late 90s . . . albeit with reservations for specific manufacturer codespace beyond the generic, or universal, code set.
Perhaps [JagV8} can chime in if I have missed or misled but all I can do is post back at the end of next week, with results if any. My initial take is skeptical . . . favouring either h/w or s/w issues or simply, operator error. That said, I am open to any reasonable explanation.
My own experience of the solution I recommend (ELM327 + Torque app) has been based on a combination of its dirt cheap price and simple GUI which most low tech humans can work with. Caveat is that as these units approach ridiculously low prices, quality of some Asian manufacture (strangely, in my opinion) has wavered - most work great; some reported dead on arrival. However, priced at just AU$5-$7 each, including free p&h, it is hard to feel upset.
Best wishes,
Ken

Thanks Ken. I went round and round with Autel Tech Support regarding my inability to update the service packs on Windows 10. I have worked in the computer industry for over 25 years both domestic and abroad and am surprised at their lack of concern. It is easier for them to blame the customer so I have returned the unit to the seller.
I look forward to your response.
Have a Bonza day!

I can confirm that the BAFX scanner works on a 2007 XK. I bought it since it had been listed as working on a 2006 XKR, so thanks for that!
See the testing screenshot below. Oil temperature and transmission temperature (mode1/mode2) showed nothing so I hid them earlier.
Top row is throttle position stuff, no idea really.
Second row is CO2 and air-to-fuel ratios, then some torque things on all the following rows.
Remaining fuel as percentage, fuel pressure (I heard this is a good thing to at least log), some stuff, absolute engine load
ECU speed, GPS speed, revs, some torque, some engine load
Ambient air temp, intake air temp, coolant temp (went up to 95°C), some torque again and some non-working power thing
CO2 also started showing some values soon, but I'm not sure whether that's a calculated field or straight from the ECU. Also, I suppose it's best left hidden on a car like this...
I also ordered an OBD extension cable with an on/off switch. I intend to dismantle the switch, and pull power for it by tapping some ignition live fuse. That way I believe I can leave the OBD scanner in the OBD socket without letting it drain my battery.

23 €, so not as cheap as some I've seen. However, the last time I bought the cheapest well-reviewed OBD scanner I could find, it wrecked havoc on my X-Type. Seeing as this one had already been used by one member on an X150, it felt like the safest bet. I'm only really interested in coolant temperature anyway...

Whew! I've read through this thread, starting with page 1. I have a 2002 Jaguar X Type 3.0 and the check engine light just came on.
I've narrowed it down to Roadi NGS100, Actron Cp9550 PocektScan Plus, Innova 3030g and Innova3030. Which should I get? I need one that will reset the light, too.

Just how does the iCarSoft Rover/Jaguar i930 stack up to the rest of the prefered Jaguar scanners? Have looked at them all for a while, and these seem to do the job pretty well. B4 spending my money, am looking for one that does more than my Launch VII+ reader. The iCarSoft Rover/Jaguar i930 appears to do a lot more, but it is set up for Jaguar & Land Rovers from the start. The Launch VII+ reads all cars generic codes very well, and have always found it to be very helpful but it appears to be limited in reading, & clearing some of the sensors. With a 2004 XJ8, as well as a 2007 XJ Vanden Plas a more involved reader appears to be needed to stay away from the dealer. As well as having to wonder what to replace, repair, or maybe reset, when information is scarce of limited.
