Default Towing?

I need to transport my 2002 XKR 900 miles. Can I use my car dolly and not harm anything like my transmission or rear end?? Or do I need to rent a trailer? Thank in advance.

Go for the trailer. The owners handbook requires a flat bed tow truck for recovery. You don't say whether it is a convertible or coupe.
With a convertible there is less strength in the center of the body due to know solid roof.
I don't know about the consequences to the transmission with the driveshaft moving and tthe torque convertor stationary.
I would just stick to the owners handbook and trailer it.

The problem as I understand it is that with the driveshaft spinning and the input shaft not spinning, the oil pump in the transmission is not providing any pressure or circulation. There's still some gears inside rotating with inadequate lubrication and overheating of the fluid.

Thanks for the information! I will take your advice and rent a trailer. I am glad that I asked and for your replies. KWinn

RVers use a 12V transmission pump to tow their cars. Pumps the fluid and keeps it cooler, but the pumps probably cost more than a trailer.
