So my xk8's gearbox decided to die (suspected 'A' drum failure) right after I got it back on the road after rebuilding the rear suspension. I experienced exactly the same problem my 02 3.2 XJ8 had , banging into 5th gear when taking off. So after a month of trolling forums I changed the gearbox over a period of 2 months


I still have the old xj's ZF5hp24 gearbox sitting about. So my question is can the 3.2 XJ8 gearbox be used with the 4.0 XK8?


Is this a stupid question
considering the extra power output of the XK8 (290hp) compared to the XJ8's 240hp.


Being able to do the job this way if possible will be more time saving for myself, as I can rebuild the gearbox then just do a straight swap.

The 3.2 and 4.0 are basically the same engine AJ26. The differences are internal as to bore and stroke. The transmission will fit either engine should be a bolt on.
