1988-89 XJ40 door handles alternate fix
After replacing about 20 (it feels like) door handles on my xj40. I wanted to figure out a fix for it and here is my fix.
Theory:
Use a 60lb shaved door kit to pull the inter opening lever, with a switch connected to the door handle to activate the solenoid. I figured that the 60lb being the largest you can buy, should be strong enough pull the lever.
I ordered it for 45$ bucks, received it and tried to install it. There were two problems with the 60lb solenoid. First one being it is huge! I could not find a good spot anywhere that it could fit and was still able to use it. The second one being its sounds like a jackhammer in the door when it is turned on.
60lb kit
So after thinking for a bit I decided to go with a lower poundage which makes it smaller in size. While looking for one I come across a "Universal Power Door Lock Actuator" which is rated at 11lb for 4$ bucks. I thought for 4$ if it was not strong enough it wasn't that big of loss.
Lock Actuator
I received it today, I installed it and it works great!
It pulls the lever very easily and you can not hardly hear it at all.
Here is a couple of pics of it installed.

I've only just noticed your post. This thread really should have been on XJ40 forum so I've moved it.
danzar was last on the forum 12-12-2013 10:57 PM. Unlikely you will get a reply but others here with the same model may be able to help.
