Getting a V12 to sound amazing - what's it take?
I don't actually own a Jaguar, but I really want one, if only for the sole reason that they can sound just menacing (Ok that's not the only reason I want one).
It sounds like a banshee screaming. I've heard other V12 Jaguars on YouTube and a lot of them don't sound close. What does it take to actually get one to sound like that? I'm assuming you can't just take the cats/mufflers off and get there (or can you?)?
Headers? ECU and tune? Cams? Upped compression? All of the above?

I would use a camshaft on the exhaust side that has an early exhaust valve opening- this will give a rorty noise.
I would also engineer an exhaust system that accentuates a strong 6th and 12th order (and perhaps 3rd) for a V12. How do you do that?
Well that's what engineers are paid the big bucks for (or not- when it comes to the UK ;-)).

i have many good remarks about my V12 , custom to my specs, ALL 12 cylinders exit from one driver side outlet!
yes little loud but no other car sounds like it!
2.5" down pipes ,no cats, large glass pack mufflers, but 3 ft long 5" diameter turn down outlet!
starts out rumbly(Crane cams) around 4500 rpm goes into torque range, gets attention, then after torque peak, just screams/whines, to around 7000RPM. ALL 12 cylinders.
cars that have exhaust outlets on rear side of car , and you only one side, if behind, 1st your ear hears one side then the other ear other side ,,Mixes up the brain waves! LOL.

beautiful sound , no wonder V12 engines came popular, i believe the Jag V12 has a FLAT PLANE crankshft, they have been popular with Ferrari, Lambos etc.
i dont think you can build a 60* V12 without a flatplane shaft! harmonic vibrations and such?
also a V12 has more exhaust beats per revolution, like 6 beats for each rotation, while V8 has only 4 beats, a 6 cyl, has 3 beats,, and the 4 cylinder has 2 pulses per rev.
any one guess how many pulses a Mazda rotary has per rev??
but either way that car has a GGRREEAT sound!
