Default You'll enjoy it

Hi, I restored my Father's 1970 model during 2011/12 for my two daughter's weddings. I'm now enjoying my Labour's around the countryside at shows. Look it up in July 2013 edition of the JEC Magazine. Stay with it, they are very rare in mint condition.
I'm looking forward to your pictures.

You have a lot of work ahead of you, good luck, hope you have plenty of time and pennies! I spent 9 months every day to do mine and did all the donkey work, employing a specialist to do the cutting and welding. Look at 420G RESTORATION HSB to see something of mine.

I was lucky in that there was no welding or cutting needed, but the last fiddly little bits are taking time. Your 420g looks smashing is the lighter green on yours similar to mine ie: willow green?

Hi JJD.
Yes it is Willow Green.. but the new Willow Green is not the same colour after 44 years,I painted it a shade of British Racing Green which was my Father's first Jag.. A 3-4 1959 S model with wire wheels.. on looking through the brochure there was an option of British Racing over Willow Green, so it's upside down really, but what the Hell, I like it better..
Stay in touch.

Nice job JDD, this is the first thread I came across on JF way before I joined. I was looking to buy a S1 XJ6 or 420G,at the time I was researching 420G as I had a local one (450 km away)that was pretty good ,road worthy certificate and registered for $5000,and I rode my Bonnie 5 hours to look at it but it was sold before I went back for a second look with the Minister of internal affairs and Finance.

Yes they are a smashing car but i reckon an xj is an easier restoration as the parts supply for the big g is very limited compared to the xj. Im just trying to manipulate the interior back into position now! Not easy with fiddly tiny flat head screws and loads of wood pieces that have to go back in order. Pics will follow shortly. The willow green is not an attractive colour but somehow suits the 420g, its very period correct and reminiscent of the heady days when the gentry pulled up at their country houses in the old jag, everything seems to be grey and green in old images i have seen.

Few bits and pieces. Interior pretty much back together, heres a pic. Left it with a used patina, partly due to budget and partly because it feels more homely. But its tucked in until the new year away from the elements at the mo and the latest addition of a series 2 vanden plas has taken some of the limelight as well.
The eagle eyed among you will have noticed i swapped the 420g dash top for the mk10. I just liked the all wood look of the older car and its an easy swap back if need be.

They call me "Hawk Eye Clarky" at work because I don't miss the slightest dot out of place or blemish , but I did miss your dash swap not knowing the models.

Looking good. Yep, the Xj6 certainly is easy to find parts for. Every week or two one seems to pop up for parts or a complete car not running as cheap as chips around this Island.

I know this an old thread but I'd love to know what happened to this incredible car.

I really wanted to post a happy victory congrats, but then I was saddened for you. At least, as you say no one was hurt. Hope your luck gets better. That is a great car!
