Default 1964 MK2 - Question about the rear valance for you restorers

All,
Doing some metal work - dent and rust repairs on my 64 MK2. I have noticed that the rear valance has a "cut-out" for the exhaust, but there is also another "cut-out" that I cannot explain. I was ready to put new sheet metal in the gap, but then I noticed the same gap or "cut-out" in another MK2 undergoing restoration. See images below. Can anyone confirm that the gap is correct and explain why it is there. Seems a bit odd.
Thanks,
Lin

Default 1964 MK2 - Question about the rear valance for you restorers

Thanks to Barry!

Mike Eck on the saloon-lovers email list says that it should be there and that it is for installation of the fuel tank? Anyone else have an opinion or even better a photo?

Hi Lin
I do not have the gap for the exhaust and also not the one in the middle. The gap is also not on the new sheet metals I received. Maybe the middle one is made for a trailer coupling?
Regards,
Oliver

Lin, had some time to ponder about the valence. If I remember correctly I replaced mine during my major restoration. I have had the tank in/out a number of times, and yes the cut out would help , as it was a bit fiddly!
Hope this helps.
The cut out, as in your last pic(to the rhs) in required for the exhaust, as I am sure you know.
