New to Jaguar
Hi my name is Flori,..just checking in and anxious to find out a lot of information about the famous car mark of Jaguar.
I always loved the design of the mid 80's Jaguar XJ6 and about 2 weeks ago, I had the opportunity and I purchased a 1986 Jaguar XJ6 with about 107,000 miles on it.
It needs a little TLC and a "tune-up" but it still runs and drives well. I picked it up and drove it home for about 1 hour and 23 minutes with no issues.
There's some initial things that I need to fix first on it, before I can take it for the state inspection.
I hope that I can find some answers here to some of the things that I will need to fix on my 1986 Jaguar XJ6.
Glad to find this Jaguar forum.

Welcome to the forum Flori,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
1986 was a model change year - the XJ6 Series III was superseded by a completely new XJ6 otherwise known as the XJ40. Not the only time Jaguar have done this with model names!
XJ6 Series III
XJ6 (XJ40) - usually with single headlamps in the US
Follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ6 Series I, II & III forum if you have the earlier Series III model or this one XJ40 ( XJ81 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ40 forum if you have the later model for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Hello to all of you.
I would like to thank Clarid, Clarke, Graham,Grant, Steve, Elinor, Norri and Jim for all of your warm WELCOMES to me to this forum. Thank you.
Maybe I had not mentioned before,..my 1986 Jaguar XJ6 does have the 4.2 ltr. inline six, has most of you might had suspected.
Today has I started the Jaguar, few seconds after it started making a loud "belt squiking noise". I let it warm up for a few minutes but that "belt noise" was still there when I shut it off. Did not wanted to "bother" the neighbours too much, so I closed the hood and shut the engine off after a few minutes.
I hope that that by getting one of those "belt conditioner" spray can and spray the inside of the belts, I'm hopping that that "loud belt squiking noise" will eventually stop.
If anyone of you have a different idea on how I can stop that noise, please let me know,...I would greatly appreciate.
Thank you all.
