Hello, new user here... New owner. Just purchased a 2016 XJL Portfolio and of course want to learn all I can about the car. One question that comes to mind immediately is does anyone actually drive 15000 miles before an oil change? That's crazy to me... after spending close to 90K for a new car I can't imagine anyone actually doing this?

Hello, Chet,
Congratulations on your New Jaguar!
Long drives and open road miles are much easier on a newish engine than stop&go traffic on an older engine. This is because the oil has a chance to warm up and boil off volatile contaminants during those long miles, whereas some cars Never really get to operating temperature just running to the grocery store, allowing acids and such to sit on metal and eat their way through rings, cylinder walls, bearing and stuff.
Certainly a manufacturer would recommend proper oil change intervals for their engine, as their bottom line is negatively effected by failed components replaced under warrantee. (Speaking of which, when they change your oil and something fails [heaven forbid], you have a proper documentation that your oil was actually changed on time as recommended.)
I don't wait that long to change oil in any of my vehicles, but I'm sort of particular like that.
