playing external machines through car sound system
first time so please bear with me. I have read numerous posts on this topic which has totally confused me.
[background] I have a 2003 Jaguar 2.5 S-type with the manufacturers sound system. I have an ipod. [with a cable and usb].
[the future] I wish to "plug in" the ipod to the sound system.
Q. What do I need?..... and is it non-technically minded friendly
I await with anticipation!

Thanks Graham.
Unfortunately the posts were more or less what i had already looked at so i ended up more mystified than before. I did however, like the comment made by a member "although i own a jaguar it does not mean that i am rich"... how very true, i just like the style comfort and the flair; which does my ego the world of good.
Unless i have completely miss-read it, no-one really seems to have approached the question of how do i do it? in simple laymans terms. I think a rejoiner of "you have to solder...." would be enough to put someone like me off from attempting it myself. The alternative would therefore be Jaguar, whose costs of GBP200+ seems to be quite excessive.
I have therefore bowed down to common sense and purchased a Bush mini speaker system GBP15, which sits comfortably in my drinks container and sounds ok. Agreed it's second best, but it solves my question.
Look forward to seeing you on another topic.

Welcome to Jaguar Forums
Hi highways ... and greetings;
Perhaps a misunderstanding here? You are in the New Members Intro forum and, as Graham suggested, you need to pursue your technical enquiry in the forum specific to your Model ... in this case, the S-Type & STR forum, where our technical experts will see your questions and respond.
I am surprised you found confusing posts there. I recall a range of options available to solve your question ... ranging from the basic (such as you have bought); through a variety of aftermarket solutions including transponders designed to relay your device through either inbuilt tape player or radio tuner; right through to total replacement.
Suggest you use the Search Tools in that forum using terms like "Aux In" "iPod into Tape Player" "iPod into Audio Unit" ... explore all posts in the thread, in sequence. Then, with that background, ask your questions in the forum where they will generate thought and response.
Our role here is to welcome you; point you to the many resources available, and the tools provided. The vast number of different Jaguar models/years/variants implies that we rely on specialist knowledge, and this introductory section is not where it's at.
So, a big welcome ... it's great to have you join us,
Ken

Your problem solving solution appears the best option.
