Default Wait for the 2016 model or buy one now?

Hi guys,

This would be my first luxury car. I currently drive a ford fusion 2011, and now want to upgrade to my favorite car.. the XF.

I'm thinking of getting myself a used 2013 3.0 AWD, leasing a new car, or just waiting for the 2016's new design unit.

Does anyone know if the new design will be that much different? That is my main dilemma. I wouldn't want to purchase the current XF, and then a year later already starts being old.

And furthermore, what do you think of a used 2013 model? The ones I'm looking at have a range of 30-55 000 KM on them. Are these models prone to have defects?

A big thanks in advance for any replies.

Cheers,

-S

If you're not in a rush I would wait to see; they're supposed to show it a week from today with full specs next month at the NY Auto Show and it's to go on sale this Fall.

I have a 2013 AWD, I have had two O2 sensors replaced which seemed to be isolated to earlier 2013 cars and the front rotors had to be replaced but that was all under warranty. Other than that it's been faultless, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.

Cool! That is soon. I will definitely wait out to see about the show. I'm kinda hoping the 2016 won't be that different lol Wouldn't mind getting myself an XF earlier.

I'm also glad to hear about your 2013, that's encouraging. The used ones I am looking at tend to be covered under "Jaguar certified pre-owned". Haven't read throughout it, but hope it covers enough.

The 2016 is supposed to be totally new with an all aluminum body architecture. Should be quite an upgrade from the current XF.

If it nothing else changed but swapping aluminum for steel I'd still wait for the 2016 model. The weight savings should raise MPG, increase performance, and eliminate any rust worries in the future.

Wait for 2016. Current car is totally outdated. You would be insane to buy a 2015.

I would say if you want an AWD 3.0 XF, wait for a 2016 MY car. If you want a 5.0 V8, get a 2015 MY car, at least according to the Jaguar configurator. I didn't see a V8 option.

I would wait for the 2016 also. I have the 2013 3.0 AWD and the car itself has been basically flawless. I've had no issues to date. I almost pulled the trigger and traded up a year early and got a 2015, but the difference was basically only red badges and wheels. I will say this though, if you do choose to go with an outgoing 2013-2015, you will not be disappointed, nor will you feel like you have an outdated car. The XF was and is such a gorgeous car that no matter how many other vehicles mimic the lines (the current fusion cones to mind), it still stands out and turns heads.

But with all that said, I'm waiting on the 2016 also (if I'm not seduced into a 2017 XJ......). The new aluminum is cool, but it's not a factor, imho. For me, the updated media-info-tech is worth the wait alone! That's the only knock I have for JLR. Beautiful, luxurious automobiles, yet my wife's Grand Cherokee is miles ahead of them on the tech front. But the suspension upgrades, the improved handling, steering(all reports are they the XF and XE have the best steering setup in the game), etc...... That's what I'm waiting for.

The new XE-S is an absolute stunner, but the old one does not look dated IMO. People still stare and compliment this car everywhere I go. In a world full of Bimmers, Audis, and Mercs the Jags just stand out.

I would say wait for 2016. Granted the prices are going to be a little high since its going to have just been launched.....but when they hit the show rooms, the current XF will outdated. If you're going to do it, do it right

I think the outgoing XF is a stellar vehicle that I wouldn't regret owning, yet the new one is even more refined.
If you can afford it, get a current-gen and then trade-in or something towards the next. The current XF is such an under-rated platform. The 2016 is simply a refinement (though a new car, except for a few bolts according to Jag reps) and the next step or perhaps next level. IMO and all that...

I have a 2014 XF R-Sport and have just been lent a brand new 2015 XF R-Sport (new shape)

I can't wait to get mine back... Doesn't look anywhere near as nice inside or outside as the 14MY. Only nicer things are the electric boot opener and the bigger infotainment screen.

It feels more plasticy and hot hatchy than the last XF with heavier steering and firmer suspension.

It's the first time I've been given a newer car and wanted to go back

The family's reaction when I pulled up in it said it all! Great shame really

I saw the base model in San Diego at a speed festival there on Sunday. Wasn't impressed, but I will wait to pass full judgment until I see a higher trim level. Reminded me more of an Audi than my Jag. Front end is nice and the tail lights didn't look bad at all in person.

Also saw the XE-S. If it wasn't so small, I would consider it if they make a "hot" version. I think it will definitely change some opinions in the masses.

And we were able to drive the F-Type R and S. Surprised the hell out of me that I liked the S better in the short autocross track they had set up. REALLY well balanced and felt quick enough for sure. The R was powerful but tended to push the front more.

Good times for sure

Jag just sent us all to New Orleans to see the new XF and XE. The technology changes in the XF are RIDICULOUS! The XF will finally compete (and best in many cases) with BMW, Audi, and Benz in the infotainment and technology offerings. Nav is all Google maps, it moves and scrolls just like your cell phone screen, street view is available, etc. The aluminum makes it more Jaguar but the upgraded tech makes it better than Jag has ever been.

One reviewer says the 2016 XF Infotainment screen has the "most tablet-like touch" of any cars he's ever tested so far - fast and responsive.
He found everything else equally to his liking...except one thing - the anemic engine noise.

So, a vastly different/superior car from the 2015.
