Default Jaguar Competition Books

FS: Jaguar Competition Books

Yet another Jaguar book offering, this time all related to Jaguars in competition, or the preparation thereof. Some rarities. Since I am selling off portions of my private library, only one copy of each book is available. All these books are very gently used, in Very Good to Excellent condition (mostly the latter). All prices include shipping in the US, which is substantial for the larger format, weighty books. (Unable to respond to foreign enquiries since international book shipping rates have skyrocketed for private, non-business individuals.) My book summaries are in italics below each item. If you need further information on any items, do not hesitate to contact me.

Competition and Performance Books for Sale

Item C1.David Abecassis, A Passion for Speed - the life and times of George Abecassis, PJ Publishing, 2010, hardback with dust jacket, 12” x 9-1/4”, 412 pages. $92.
HWM were a surprisingly successful, very small producer of sports racing cars, some of which were Jaguar powered. This book by the son details his father's racing career from 1933 to 1956, latterly in the HWM-Jaguar. One of the magnificent coffee-table-sized productions by Paul Skilleter Books.

Item C2.Eric Dymock, Ecurie Ecosse – David Murray and the legendary Scottish motor racing team, PJ Publishing, 2007, hardback with dust jacket, 12” x 9-1/4”, 271 pages. $95.
Ecurie Ecosse were the privateers who at times played David to the Goliath of the works Jaguars, including EE's Le Mans victories in 1956 and 1957. This book describes the team's history as well as the details of the XK120s, C-Types, D-Types, Listers, and Tojeiros that David Murray fielded. Yet another of the magnificent coffee-table-sized productions by Paul Skilleter Books.

Item C3.Robert Edwards, Archie and the Listers, Patrick Stephens Ltd., 1995, hardback with dust jacket, 9-1/2” x 6-1/2”, 248 pages. $38.
Archie Scott Brown was the amongst the best of the competitive drivers during the post WW2 era, principally in the sports racers developed by Brian Lister. This book covers his extraordinary life as well as the development of the Lister cars, culminating in the Lister-Jaguars (and -Chevrolets!).

Item C4.Des Hammill, How to Power Tune Jaguar XK 3.4, 3.8, & 4.2 Litre Engines, Veloce Publishing, 2001, paperback, 9-3/4” x 8-1/4”, 112 pages. $18.
Nine chapters of detailed information on how to build and modify Jaguar XK engines for high performance. Expert practical advice from an experienced race engine builder.

Item C5.J.H. Haynes and H.K. Legg, Weber Carburetors Owners Workshop Manual, Haynes Publishing, 1984, paperback, 10-3/4” x 8-3/8”, 191 pages. $35.
Webers were the carburetors of choice on high performance variants of the Jaguar XK engine. This book covers the tune-up, overhaul, and specifications of all Weber carbs through 1979.

Item C6.Denis Jenkinson, Jenks – A passion for motor sport, Motor Racing Publications, 1997, hardback with dust jacket, 10” x 7-5/8”, 224 pages. $38.
Jenks was the premier motorsports journalist of his era and a genuine eccentric, best known for his epic stint as mad navigator to Stirling Moss' bonkers driver in their record shattering victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia. Read this book and realize that such men no longer exist. Only Jaguar connection in this book is the chapter on Jenks' brief episode of E-Type OTS ownership, but the book is still a wonderful read.

Item C7.Doug Nye, Powered by Jaguar – The Cooper, HWM, Lister and Tojeiro sports racing cars, Motor Racing Publications, 1980, hardback with dust jacket, 10” x 7-5/8”, 168 pages. $18.
A small encyclopedia on all the privateers successfully racing under Jaguar XK power. A unique and comprehensive overview of a historic era.

Item C8.Don Peers, SU Carburettors Owners Workshop Manual, Haynes Publishing, 1976, paperback, 10-3/4” x 8-3/8”, 87 pages. $26.
With one exception, SUs were the standard carburettors all variants of the pre-FI Jaguar XK engine. This book covers the tune-up, overhaul, and specifications of all SU carbs through 1976.

Item C9.Don Pollard, Jaguar XK Engine – History, buying, rebuilding, uprating, Haynes Publishing, 1998, hardback, 11” x 8-3/8”, 190 pages. $62.
Much of what you need to know about working on the XK engine and extracting the most from it. In three parts: Heritage, Practicalities, Stripdown and Reassembly. Even a chapter on fuel injection.

Item C10.Graham Robson, Jaguar D Type & XKSS – Works and customer cars; Deetype & Lynx, Osprey Publishing, 1983, hardback with dust jacket, 8-5/8” x 7-1/2”, 135 pages. $48.
Nice compact summary of the last of the classic Jaguar racing sports cars. Includes a chapter on the earliest replicas, and another chapter on the E2A, E-Type and XJ13 descendants.

Item C11.Paul Skilleter, Jaguar – The Sporting Heritage, Virgin Publishing, 2000, hardback with dust jacket, 12-3/8” x 10-5/8”, 256 pages. $26.
Another mega-sized coffee-table book covering Jaguar racing from Swallow days to Formula One. Just as heavy on the photos (many of which I had not seen before) as on the text. Perhaps the definitive illustrated history of Jaguars in competition, compiled with the full cooperation of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust.

Item C12.Paul Skilleter with Norman Dewis, Norman Dewis of Jaguar – Developing the Legend, PJ Publishing, 2007, hardback with dust jacket, 12” x 9-1/8”, 575 pages. This copy personally signed by Norman Dewis and Paul Skilleter. $98.

Complete with the individual history of each of the 54 C-types built by Jaguar. Full of original research.

Item C14. Andrew Whyte, Jaguar Sports Racing & Works Competition Cars from 1954, Haynes Publishing, 1987, hardback with dust jacket, 11” x 8-3/4”, 624 pages. $65.
The companion volume to Item C13, continuing the Jaguar racing story from the D-type to the XJR-8 of 1987. Includes much information on the contemporaneous privateers, the resurrection of E-type racing in the USA, the individual histories of every D-type and special-build E-type, biographies of the works drivers. Simply exhaustive. Items C13 and C14 should really be acquired as a matched pair, thus offered at a discounted $130 for the pair.

Item C15. John Appleton (pseudonym for Andrew Whyte), The Jaguar C-type, Profile Publications, Number 36, 1966, pamphlet, 9-1/4” x 6-7/8”, 12 pages. $8.

Written by a key member of Department 21, Jaguar's Competition Department. Many tales told out of class, technical details never before revealed, documents and photos never before seen. Fascinating! Includes a large, fold-out blue-print of the F1 Jaguar that never was.

25% OFF SALE

Order any four or more items, and knock 25% off the total cost. Still no extra charge for shipping in the US. The items can be combined from any of the three Jaguar book sale threads that I have sitting out there (E-Type, Competition, or History):
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...-books-174761/
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...-books-176102/
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...-books-178741/

Note that after 30 days, an inactive thread is automatically marked “sold”, whatever the reality, unless the thread has been bumped in the interim. I am tired of bumping threads. So if you come upon these threads in the future, unless the thread itself says items are sold, the stuff is still available!
