2005 S type R
Just picked up a 2005 S type R this weekend 1365 round trip in just a little over 25 hours! Anyway the diff is leaking at one of the 1/2 shaft seals and I am thinking about doing it myself. I have done the seals on a Saturn Ion redline and you just had to tap (pound) the 1/2 shaft out. any help or hits would be great. as I am not sure how the 1/2 shafts are held in place.
Thanks, Rich

Welcome to the forum groove, when you get a moment stop by our new members area and introduce yourself ==>> New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
I suggest you start off by downloading the JTIS workshop manual ==>> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...uctions-54640/ this gives you all the official work instructions and service information, it's a must have.
In regards to replacing the seal. You need to remove the hub carrier and separate the driveshaft from the hub, a pulling tool is the best option for that.
The driveshaft is held into the diff with a retaining clip on the end of the spline inside the diff. There is a special tool for prising the shaft out of the diff, jag p/n 307-442 you put a handle on it and use it to separate the shaft out of the diff.
Something similar should be available, maybe a ball-joint splitter?
The retaining clip gets damaged during removal and is supposed to be replaced each time.
The seals are available as spares, and there are also special tools for putting in the new seal, and protecting it as you put the driveshaft back in, I don't know of anyone who uses those outside of Jaguar dealers though...
If you buy the seal from a Jaguar dealer ask them for the retaining clip as well.
Seal p/n XR821244
Retaining clip p/n XR811133
I wouldn't be using a hammer...
