Hello jakej and welcome.
Thanks for the compliment.
Answers to your questions:

1) I removed the stock cd changer. I believe that the stock changer is Alpine - I'm not 100% sure though.

2) Yes, along with the other buttons. You need to get a PAC Audio Steering Wheel Interface adapter
(SWI-X is the adapter that I use)

3) Yes, I used wire harness adapters. I purchased then from crutchfield.com

check the AV section. I replaced mine to Pioneer x710. There should be all the information regarding wiring and steering remote control.

can you have an after market navi head unit installed and still maintain the use of the disc changer?

You did a damn good job!!! I have to take mine to the shop,I know home systems. Not car audio literate by any means. I was given a quote of $1,336.43 out the door, this included a Metra 6.8in. mutimedia unit installed including mounting kit, harness adaptor, antenna adaptor, and steering wheel interface, but i lose my disc changer awwww!!! is this a decent deal?

That's not to bad if you are getting one of the top of the line stereos. I did mine for just under $1100 complete with new amp for subs. It took a few hours. It was not that hard. The hardest part of the install was rewiring the speakers and I could not find the speed sensor.
