Default Gas door mech..

K I've seen several posts about the little pin that breaks off for the door.. Well looking at mine I see no such pin.. Here is a photo of the mechanism and the door.. It won't close but I do not see where a pin there would help?

You need to order part # XR818050 (Plastic part that slips onto the metal notch on the gas door) - the one with the "premium unleaded" label. (Yours looks to be totally missing) I keep a spare one handy as I had to replace it not too long ago...

When you get the part - put a bit of white lithium grease on the rails that will slide into the metal notch - take your time and the tang will lock the part in place to give it perfect alignment with the catch mechanism.

Just always close the gas door carefully moving forward.

Aren't they all on the right hand side, regardless of RHD/LHD?

Looks like I need the same piece. But looking at the pic (which looks just like mine) and a pic of the part from terrys jag, I don't see where the piece would fit. Anyone mind taking a pic of what a working door would look like?

Upon closer inspection of this little plastic part, my blonde moment subsided and I realized it's for the door

I had already called the dealership earlier and the part was less than $6, but I don't need it anymore.

My problem was the latch wouldn't spring back after being released, as if the release cable in the trunk was stuck. After wrestling with the cable for 20min trying to get it to release the latch, I finally got it enough to wear the door stays closed and the electronic switch can still open it. There's probably a kink in that cable somewhere behind the panel that I can't reach, so no idea how I could replace it. But I can live without that cable.

The manual release mechanism/cable gets fouled up with crap and corruption.
You can access it by removing the PS cover in the trunk---I was able clean and lubricate the mechanism without too much trouble. After clean and lube it was like new!

While we're on the same subject, does anyone know what fastener I should use to secure the strap for the gas cap back on for my 2005 Jaguar XJ8L? Thanks.
