Default Headlight fix

Eric,

How did you make out with your fix? Recently picked up an '03 S-TYPE R (with the same stlye lights as yours with the round chrome part). I drilled very small pilot hole. When I pushed on the chrome piece with the drill bit, the assembly did not move like I anticipated...

Thanks,
Eric

glad ya'll like this easy fix, I just wish it worked for Xtypes. I had(just tossed 20 light assemblies) Xtype in halogen and HID, and have taken them apart and epoxied, but the repair is not long lasting cause the plastic is SO brittle with age/heat it just breaks again around the epoxy.

I'd think if they need the screw fix then like new isn't possible (because it's a damaged plastic part or some such).

You should check with a local scrap collector. The guy that comes around picking up our scrap metal pays $50 per each headlamp assembly HID or halogen as long as they are not smashed from collision. Don't know what he does with them but I gaurantee he is making money off them somehow.

I DO NOT DO XTYPE ANYMORE THEY DONT STAY FIXED AND WOULD HAVE TO HAVE FABBED PIECES IN METAL TO REPLACE THE PLASTIC. I HAVE HID STYPE'S THAT CAN BE RETRO'D IN TO REPLACE HALOGEN ASSEMBLIES BY CHANGING THE TRIGGER WIRES. HALOGENS TRIGGER WITH POWER, HID WITH GROUND. YES THEYRE SCREW FIXED AND IMO BETTER THAN BEFORE CAUSE THERES NO PLASTIC TO BREAK, YOU ADJUST YOUR HEIGHT(HORIZONTAL) WITH THE SCREW TURNING IN/OUT . BUT HEY, IF YOUR ALL HUNG UP ON FACTORY OEM IN PERFECT SHAPE(THAT WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK TOO)..YOU CAN BUY HIDS FOR OVER A $1000 EACH...ITS YOUR MONEY

Brutal is right on the mark with this fix. I did it to my car for $0.14 for the screw vs the $1250 the dealer quoted for new and I bet this will last just as long as the new replacement would.

Thanks Brutal!

Hey Brutal the next time you're about to chuck X-Type headlights feel like scavenging the projectors out of them and selling them at a really low cost?

Default Thanks Brutal

Another satisfied customer. I dont think small pilot hole bit had the backbone to move the assembly. Sure enough after drilling a proper sized hole and cranking in the stainless steel screw...the headlight beam rose probably 6 inches with every full turn of the screw. Brilliant. Thanks again Brutal.

Lol im sure hella hates me, but then that leaves money to do other stuff to your jag. ..... Like brakes, tires, alignments, maintenance........plus you can always tell your wife you just had to spend $1400 to install a new headlight assembly in her/your jaguar.....now you can buy that new set of clubs you wanted....

BRUTAL,

That wouldn't work with my wife..she would ask for the receipt. Then after explaining that the fix cost $2.39, she would then want to spend the $1400 on her stuff like clothes, a weekend trip to Atlantic City and the like. No car goodies and no golf clubs for me.

I did this repair about 3 months ago not realizing that the auto leveling would also start working again just by giving it a point to pivot from. I was thinking it was just going to be like a fixed headlight with the screws installed, no one would ever know it was 'rigged' unless they knew exactly what to look for. Thanks Brutal!

Before I start drilling holes and inserting screws, doyou have a fix for a broken bracket on the back of the headlight assembly. Baba little fender bender with a coyote and the actual bracket on the back of the head light snapped causing the whole assembly to be loose. I have a 2004 stype with regular halogen lamps. Right now I have a piece of cardboarg shoved in between the headlight and the bumper cover to hold it in place

( as I smack myself in the forehead ) duh! Shouldve had a v8. But I bought a v6. Lol. Thanks brutal. I have a nasty habit of making things more difficult than they need to be. Btw is it easy to remove or do I need to remove the Bumper cover?
