Default Remove headlight on 2004 S-Type

Hi,

Does anyone know how to remove a headlight WITHOUT removing the bumper from a 2004 S-Type? Tried to retrieve a loose bulb inside without any luck (or any other tips on this).

Thought that I saw somewhere that somebody had accomplished this. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,
Boog

As far as I know the only way is to remove the bumper cause you have to access some bolts that you cant get too with the bumper on. Here is the write-up for removing the bumper.

If the bulb still has some metal on it, not sure if you are talking about a whole bulb or broken fragments you might be able to get a magnetic wand and get it through the headlight bulb opening. I have one of these in my tool box and it helps alot when dropping stuff.

Thanks for the response Vance. I viewed several of your videos. Looks like you know what you are doing. Thanks again.

If you can get access to an air compressor maybe you can try blowing it out with that. I would try everything I could to get it out before resorting to having to take off your bumper just to get something out.

Three weeks ago my turn signal bulb fell into the assembly and i had to take the bumper off. I had to open up the head light this also gave me a chance to fix droopong headlights that failed and were not able to be fixed by brutals method. Removal was simple besides the two bolts in the inner wheel wells that are a pain in the ***.

Why don't you try a flexible claw tool or a vacuum first.

Default remove headlight,

I used my very powerful wood shop dust collector and a hose to "suck" a "pop-clip" from down in the innards of the bumper area, just go fishing, its amazing what gets picked up! good luck mate.

I know this is a late response, but i have one of those magnetic claws however it left scratches inside the housing and also it was useless could not get enough leverage on the bulb to have a secure hold

Got the same problem my old S Type Sport failed it's first MOT test on this today, so I have another that I bought for the plate PG03 JAG (Cool Eh) and for spares, so instead of taking of the brand new headlamp assembly off that car I will give this a go first, didn't fancy having to drop the front bumper so thank you to you all for the instructions and video - awesome stuff!
