My car tends to jerk alot...
I have noticed that sometimes when I go to break slowly (typically in stop and go traffic) right before my car comes to a stop it jerks. The same is true sometimes when I go to accelerate slowly, like in stop and go traffic and I am going to inch forward. Does that make since? It is a 2004 S-Type 3.0 with only 21,000 miles on it. Any thoughts or has anyone else seen this?

Would the brake pads be the reason it does it when I starts to go forward? I figured when I was stoping that it would be the brake pads but did not realize that it might be the same for when I come off the brakes.
Any good suggestions on brake pads and where to get them from? I know the ones I have on there now that I got from the dealer suck. They cause an insane amount of brake dust on my rims.

I am a new owner, too. Had my s-type about a year.
I think I paid about $110 for the reflash.
A very simple procedure, they can do it while you wait.
They hook your car up to the diagnostic computer and set it back to the new car defaults.
They had to do mine twice to get it right.
They reset the computer, took it for a test drive and the lurch was still there.
They reflashed again the next day and shabam...... it was gone.
I have heard of others that have a successful reflash, but the lurch returns in about 500 miles or so.
Mine has not returned and it has been about 8 months.
My lurch was severe, and I had a grinding noise coming from the gear box, and it always felt like the brakes were applied while I was driving. The computer reflash solved all of my major issues.

My service guy explained this to me in laymans terms. I have an '03 XK8, same ZF tranny as the S-types and XJs. He told me that my slight lurch when stopping, or for that fact...when you roll to a stop, and begin to accelerate is due to the transmission 'learning' from previous driving styles. It makes sense that a reflash would bring it back to it's infancy state and will thus learn from you.
I didn't have it done. I just come to a complete stop, and the lurch doesn't happen.
