Default AC Recharge Location

My 2003 S-Type takes a while before the AC blows cool air - about 10 minutes after ignition. I noticed this last summer when it took about 3-5 minutes to start blowing cool air. I suspect it is low on R134a and I plan to get a recharge kit. Where is the low port location for the AC? How difficult is it to get to for a first-timer?

On the 2000 4.0 V8, It's on the pump. But you may want someone to check for leaks first, so you don't waste your time filling a system that may have leaked the oil for the pump along with the R134.

Look behind the driver's side tire, its much easier to see from underneath. Its basically behind the spindle.

Thanks for the help, guys. It was not that difficult to get to with the wheel turned a bit. However, my pressure appeared to be fine so the level of R134 is acceptable I supppose. Just to be sure I may check again later.

I'm not having an issue with hot air from some vents and cold air from others - that would make me suspect the DCCV. Does anyone know what might cause the air to take nearly 10 minutes to get cold? After a few minutes it just goes from warm air to perfect icy cold and is fine after that.

In a couple of my long-gone vehicles that used R12 back in the day, requiring awhile for the system to begin blowing cold air typically pointed to low refrigerant. I would suspect the same with R134a although I've yet to experience that problem on any R134a vehicles that we've owned. Call around to some local AC shops, describe your situation, and listen to what they have to say....

Check the low and high side pressures with the system running. Use real gauges. A low side pressure condition is harder to catch, especially with a cheap refill can gauge.

Also check to see that the aux fan over the condenser is running with the compressor spinning.
