Default Beef it up

Hi folks I'm considering in purchasing a s type 4 litre 2000 model , want to know to gain extra horse power can I add a supercharger to it or if anyone can recommend other methods to get more grunt.Preferably I would love the "R" model with the 4.2 litre but at the moment a bit out of my budget.

Use your budget to change the chain tensioners etc or your engine can be written off.

Damn, I typed a long response and it went into the bit-bucket

Anyway, to summarize what I said: no there are no upgrades, you got what the factory produced.

You need to make sure the cam tensioners have been replaced otherwise the motor is doomed. Look through this list there are many, many posting about them.

Your best bet is to fix/replace anything that needs work and then be satisfied with a classy grand touring car, because that is what these are.

Your friends will be much more impressed with you driving a Jaguar than they will if you drive one that's 1/2 faster in the 1/4 mile than other 4.0 V8 S-Types.

The cost of adding a supercharger to a 4.0 will exceed the cost of just buying a Type R in the first place.
