Tranny fluid substitution?

Tranny fluid substitution?
My leak was found in the lower plastic pan. I replaced it and now I need to refill.
Is there a substitute for the original mineral oil Jaguar fluid? Can Mercon V be used? If so how many total quarts?
I found a way to refill without lowering the transmission. Thanks.

RE: Tranny fluid substitution?
For future ref.
Looks like some have substituted Mercon V for the mineral fluid with no problems. I found a location to fill the fluid located at the top left driver side upper corner of the radiator. This is where one of the transmission lines connects. You need to remove air filter box and intake. The problem is this is a hydraulic system so the lines are small and you can't just pour fluid rapidly in. I had to build a setup like an I-V where the fluid would just drip in at a certain pace. Once it fills and backs up, you need to connect the line and turn the engine over for 30 sec and try again. This process is slow and tedious and took probably a total of 12 hours off and on.
When I removed my pan 6 quarts came out. But I may have originally overfilled by one quart, not sure. So I noticed at 2 quarts full, "transmission fault" message would show. At 3 quarts it was gone. I went to 5 1/2 and seems to be fine. When I confirm total capacity, I can always take some out. Mineral fluid was $60 a liter which is about a quart. $360 vs $25 makes this a no brainer for us poor folks.

RE: Tranny fluid substitution?
More ref. info:
I bought a CD service manual and it states to only use ATF SHELL 1375.4 fluid. I'm not sure if this is the mineral Jag fluid or a replacement. Also it gives max transmission capacitiy for both engine sizes as 10.57 quarts. It shows a simple tool (307-452)for removing the filler plug on the side of the tranny. Looks likean extended allen wrench sort of. Fill fluid until it pours out filler hole with fluid slightly warm, not hot. Doesnt show how to fill which still is the hard part.
I did use the Mercon V after only 6 quarts came out. So far the car is performing perfectly. Not too worried about long term affects since car already has 54K.
