intermittently i get a tick tick tick tick in fast sucssesion on cold start up then the revs come down down as the auto choke sorts itself out and it goes away,

just to clarify ive already had plastic chain tensioners replaced

thanks

Just the cold weather messing with fluid viscosity and moving parts.

You have the old style V-8. Have you changed the tensioners?

They make noise on start up when worn.

Does revving it to 2,000 rpm make it suddenly go away?

It goes away when warmed up returning from cold choke rpms to idle rpm.

Agreeing with all said.

We have a few here in our little group, and oil viscosity is the prime cause. Since the tentioners are done, all OK there.

Most here run Sythetic 5W/40, or 5W/30, and no noise ever. One used 10W/40 once (brain fade), and ticking when cold, mmmm. changed it out, all silent.

Only other thing to double check is the oil level. I was losing some oil with my leaky valve covers and although it was negligable loss I would experience a tick tick tick on startup when the oil was anywhere below the maximum fill line...
