Default Hello, Exhaust Question

Hi guys i'm new here, nice to meet you all.

Just have a question about my car. I just got a Jaguar S-Type 3.0 V6 SE 2001 from my uncle, absolutely mint but it does need a few bits doing to it. I'm having trouble getting an exhaust for it. I'm thinking either cat back or back box, not really interested in sport or performance exhausts, I'd rather have it as standard as possible but will go down that route if i have to. Can anyone recommend a place/ website where i can find what i'm looking for. I'm not having much luck myself.

Thank you so much for your help

Adam

You're unlucky to need one as they seem to go on forever!

Well I can hear a rattle from either the back box or a heat shield and the rear box is held up with cable ties. I'll book it into a local garage for an exhaust check as it's free and see what they say.

Cheers

Don't take it anywhere with a vested interest in telling you fibs.

It's hard to find an honest garage these days unless you know someone, having moved away from where I lived an knew people I can only really try the local garages. It went in to halfords this week for an air con service, seemed ok.

It is a shame that there are not businesses that just provide expert evaluations of real or perceived car problems that have no stake in the repair. The question is, what would you be willing to pay for advice on various elements of your car? Probably not enough to make it worth while for the inspector.

Personally I'm prepared to pay what ever to make sure the Jag gets all the things it needs. The car was my uncle's so I know that other than that exhaust issue it's fine. Underneath is so tidy, better than you'd think for a car of its age. I would like to purchase an exhaust cat back ideally then have a garage fit it. But I don't seem to be able to find someone that makes a system for the S-Type.

Here is a firm that is selling exhaust parts. They will send you a parts catalogue as well just go to the stickies at the start of the s type and go to the post by sng Barrett.
SNG Barratt - The Ultimate Jaguar Parts Specialist is the link for the exhaust parts.

Try a breakers, yard the exhaust is SS.

So nothing to rot. They may even have the rubber hangers, if not halfords, or eurocarparts.

You should to be able to get most good bits from the breakers yard, lots of both out there.

On second thoughts, just fit the correct rubber hangers, and see if that cures the rattle, the cable ties may be just too tight and lifting the exhaust so it touches the under body.

Has to hang loose, as they say.

That's a good idea... As you say it might be a good idea to get the correct rubbers fitted to see if that cures the problem. Cheers man, it's all about the hanging loose 😁

If the rubbers are perished or the wrong grade fitted it will hang loose.
Good luck with sorting the zorst out.
Please let us know how you get on?

So it turns out that the bar? that goes through the bumper that bolts on to the chassis...? has 2 brackets on that the exhaust rubbers hang on. The near side bracket has corroded and come away so it looks as though i need that bar... I'm not sure exactly where to get one from, maybe a scrap yard. hmmm
