Default Jaguar S-Type 3.0 P0340 and P0303

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this board, but it looks from the past posts of other members that I came to the right place to help diagnose my cars problem.

Initially I had a Cyinder 2 misfire code and P0340 code(cam timing sensor) - Took it to the shop had all bank 1 coils and plugs replaced. The shop said the sensor was only reading bad because the coil needed replaced after running a in depth diagnostic - they said the cam sensor was more likely caused by an Amperage fault(not sure if that's the exact terminology but had to deal with a loss in electrical to the sensor) produced by the coil not getting spark. Long story short they didnt replace the sensor while they had the manifold off and when it was put back together it ran perfect but I was still getting the P0340 code.

I initially thought the code would come off after a drive cycle because it was running perfect, but it did not. I tested it and only got the PO340 code, then all the sudden after about 2 weeks of driving it with light on thinking that maybe I hadn't ran a drive cycle yet( More or less a DUMB IDEA), it started missing just as it was before if not worse.

My question is, does the cam sensor cause the cylinder to misfire? Am I going to need to change the coil and plug again as well as the sensor?

My thoughts, are that the sensor had a bit of life in it and finally went out completely because the code came on before but went off short time later, but this time with it being gone all the way the cylindr misfire may be cause from no sensor pulse.

With that being said - I'm having trouble locating that sensor - is it on the back side of the engine closet to the fireway or under bank 1 manifold?

The books say it like a 30 minute labor job, and it being one bolt holding it in. I just cant seem to find it, is it access from underneath? or is it something I change from the top? Ive change a one before and it was rather simple but on a different car years ago.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you clear the codes and made sure that code keeps coming back?

You can get them cleared at any parts store. Just because you did a repair does not mean the codes are still not in memory. The codes still linger.

Always start with a fresh, clean PCM.

If you want to do your own work (It will be much cheaper). Get the JTIS and install it for free from this site.
