Before you fit it, could you take a pic of the TB end so I can see just how oval-like it is.

I will be posting fitting instructions on this thread soon to avoid any possible confusion when fitting the stage 1 units to the cars.
I am curious is Stage 2 an improved option over Stage 1 or is it added once Stage 1 is installed. Sorry for the dumb question, just wondering.

The plan is to make the carbon tubes as a one piece deal going directly from the maf to the throttle body this should give smoother airflow as there will be minimum joins and also should look better.

I have had some 80mm stainless tubing made up for mocking up as this realistically is the largest you can go without interference issues. Once this is mocked up the car will go to the rolling road to compare stock with stage 1 and the mocked up stage 2 as long as there is a benefit to be had it will be made.

If there is a demand for a secondary tube to add on to the elbows people already have on their cars i could look into this also but at the moment the development is going on the stage 2.

Hope that clears up the queries.

Thanks and a happy new year to everyone.

Looking forward to further developments regarding stage 2 inlet tube from MAF to throttlebody and its respective gains!

Nice caldoofy! The attention to detail and quality appearance of your Cold Air Intake (CAI) is impressive.

I'm looking forward to seeing customer feedback regarding installation. Also, are there any STR customers with before and after numbers yet? I am looking forward to seeing what your CAI will add to the horse power and torque party .

From the small amount of modding to my S-Type R, I have seen the following cumulative power gains at the rear wheels +12 horse power (hp) and + 23 torque (trq).

Stock:
Except for Mina 2.5" rear mufflers
Best 1/4 mile ET = ~13.2 sec @ 105 mph
Best 1/4 mph = ~105 mph
337 hp, 318 trq

Exhaust mod:
Cats (Magnaflow 59975), X-pipe (Magnaflow 10790), removed resonator, Mina 2.5" rear mufflers
Best 1/4 mile ET = 12.916 sec @ 107.45 mph
Best 1/4 mph = 109.48 mph (four runs at 109+ from two different tracks)
343 hp (+6), 327 trq (+9)

Pulley mod:
Pulley change (2.6" pulley) with all the exhaust mods except back to stock cats.
Best 1/4 mile ET = TBD
Best 1/4 mph = TBD
349 hp (+6), 341 trq (+14)
After reading many intake modification posts for STRs (keeping the stock air filter box) this seems like a nice upgrade for both sound and power.

ok, I installed the intake unfortunately haven't had a chance to drive the car yet. The installation was a little bit of a pain. The rubber fitting to the maf was too long so I had to cut a 1/2" semicircle to slide the oil breather stainless connection down so it would fit. If the rubber fitting to the maf was 1" shorter it would of been a 2 minute install but took about 25 , 30 min. Other that that everything looks and fits well. Just a message to caldoofy to make the sleeve shorter for s typeR, not sure about the XJR's. Can't wait to test. I'll keep you posted

Any sound clips of your car at idle, cruising, WOT? I've thought about doing exhaust mods, but I don't want it to be something I regret.

Mine was the exact opposite! I had to go find a longer hose to connect the airbox to the intake. But after that it is spectacular. You can hear the blower whine earlier, it's louder, and the seat of my pants tell me that I picked up a few more HP. Recommend to anybody looking for a nice STR intake elbow, can't wait to see what the carbon fiber looks like!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I did make the hoses a little longer following feedback from a couple of people on the first batch, better slightly too long than too short to my way of thinking. A little extra room can be gained by pushing the tube closer to the engine intake. Best method seems to be get the tube on don't tighten any jubilee clips, manipulate the tube for best fit then tighten up all clips. By doing that you will achieve maximum flexibility when fitting.

New batch of stage 1s will be from 25th Jan.

Default Intake is here!

Thanks to John my intake has arrived safely and on time!!

Just opened the box (felt like Christmas) today. This intake looks great and I am going to get it fitted this weekend. I have attached a pic of the intake for all to see, but will be taking photos during the install and afterwards as well.

As they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Cheers!

Just installed mine this evening and had ZERO problems. I connected the intake at the blower first then wiggled it into place and connected the MAF and oil breather...

I have removed my stock air box and have replaced it with the Mina Gallery Performance Intake which included a new polished alluminum MAF box as well as heat shield so maybe this made my install more flexible??

Anyway here is a quick pic of the finished product!

The pic above hints at the oval-like shape at the TB end, which I was hoping to see.

Caldoofy, you seem able to perform engineering design and production miracles on a penny budget and in no time flat. What the hell, may as well ask this question... Is it possible that the drawings for an all-plastic stage 2 could be uploaded to a computer and the tube printed out on a 3D printer?

Here's a sound clip after the new elbow. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do next, haha.

Do the Mina Intake (additional 12 rwhp on top of the 12 from the intake elbow).Tell Chris of Mina that Seth and Chris sent you, and he'll likely give you a discount.

Alternative to mina intake would be bmc cda carbon airbox, I've had excellent results with this product in the past and it is 100 percent cold air intake. Not bad prices either :-)

Do you have any of the "stage 1" intakes left in stock?

Let me know.

Thanks,

George

George - Go for it man! You wont regret it!! Big improvement since I installed mine!

Loads of Blower whine and nice throttle response / pick-up! You may want to look at a performance intake as well bfsgross and I are both running the Mina kit, but there are others out there that work too...

I have heard of some having success with the K&N flat panel and just removing the WOT flap from the stock airbox... Really comes down to a matter of preference!

Good luck with it!

Bump. If stage 2 becomes available, do you need stage 1 already installed?
