Default Yes, it really is a Ford engine...

Ya know that 90k plus price on the new Jaguars? Well, for the
money, ya get the same engine that kid down the block has in his
2011 35K Mustang. No, really.

A few weeks ago while at a Jag dealer getting my car serviced,
the service manager made the comment that the new 5 liter was
made by Ford. I found that difficult to believe: it may have been
this forum or another, but one poster said "no way, since the
stroke on the two engines differed by 2 mm." Big deal. The
truth is out there; go to www.automotivenews.com , search
for Jaguar and review the August 8, 2010 article that indicates
Tata could sell many more Jags if only they could get more
engines from Ford. It appears Tata has a contract with Ford
until 2019 for engines.

Makes me wonder what Jag actually pays for a Mustang engine.

The article appears to be August 23. It does not specify the engine size so far as I could see, although I have to say that web site is one of the very worst I have ever encountered.

I don't believe it IS the 5.0 engine. It'll be one of the others. Anyone know or can point out an authoritative article?

The Jaguar 5 litre has direct injection whilst the Ford Mustang GT 5.0 doesn't. I'm not certain if the blocks, heads, pistons, etc. are Ford...I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

The Mustang doesn't have GDI? Oh. Does it produce the same HP & TQ?
(I don't see how it can.)

The Jag's DI 5 litre motor puts out a smidgin more power than the Stang's 5.0. I realize the Stang carries 200 lbs. less luggage than the 2010 Camaro SS, but the way it woops the Camaro in the 0-60 and the 1/4 is decisive; despite 1.2 litres less displacement. Ford did an amazing job re-engineering the Stang.

Please fact check before posting... The engines that are sourced from Ford are the V6 and In-line 6 that is used in the lines, not the V8. The 5.0 is a new V8. The previous AJ-V8 engine was actually reverse shared with Ford in products from Lincoln, Ford and Land Rover.. The Land Rover relationship continues since the brands were blended by Ford and sold as a package to Tata.

Hence the V8 Land Rovers and Range Rovers contain Jaguar V8's..That said, the only true Jag engine is the V8. All others are out sourced.

Here is a Popular Mechanics article about it...
