Hi all, this is a shout out to ALL XJ X350 / X358 owners, re an XJ only meet event.
As some of you may know I've just held our Scottish Crieff meet event last Sunday which was a great day out for all concerned, see here...https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...e-05th-157318/

At the meet we had several XJ's including myself, Alec Escolme and John ( Caldoofy ) we even managed a pic of our 3 cars together, see here.......Name: 111_zps817hbl2z.jpg
Views: 74
Size: 80.5 KB

I've also built up a really good relationship with Rich ( Ashanti ) from Jaguarforum.co.uk
To cut a long story short, Rich, Alec, John and I were thinking we could have a small mini Jag meet somewhere approx halfway, Rich came up with The Tan Hill Inn which is in Swaledale North Yorks, just off A66...see details below
Tan Hill Inn, Reeth, Richmond,
Swaledale, North Yorkshire Dales,
DL11 6ED
It was supposed to be just the 4 of us, but we thought, why not open it up and have an XJ only meet event?
The date is 17th July 2016
The time 10.00am

This event is taking on arms and legs, growing really nicely!
There are members coming from near and far and very far off flung places, good numbers as we're now up to around 17 cars.
With that in mind, I will have the following on the day.........

SNG Barratt bags that are specific to each member
These will include SNG Barratt literature/ leaflets, pencils and Jaguar keyrings as well as a Jaguar poster.
The posters will be a lottery as to whether they're S type, X type, XJ or XK

There will also be forum dashboard info sheets with each members username, name and car info for display on their vehicle.
I will have forum decals included too for use on car / toolbox / locker.
There are air fresheners, keyring tyre tread depth indicators and snacks & drinks will be included as well for everyone.

I'll bring the forum banner for display and sharpies for all to sign.....hopefully we can get a group pic of the day too for posterity.
unsure if I can scrounge up any more, but should be a nice little bonus on the day.
Who would be up for this?
1. JimC64 XJ X358 2.7Tdvi Sovereign (58)
2. Ashanti XJ X350 Super V8 (05)
3. Caldoofy XJ X358 XJR (08)

Well as some of you may know, we have a mini Jag meet for XJ X350/X358 only at the Tan Hill Inn ( highest pub in England ) on the 17th July

Today I left Glasgow and had to visit a customer in Leyburn which isn't too far from the Tan Hill Inn, so I thought I'd drop by and visit, check it out, the roads etc etc
I exited the A66 just after Stainmore iirc and followed Green Lane to the Tan Hill In, it's quite a road, slightly larger than single track with passing places but not by much.

I arrived at the pub and asked to speak to Steve, seemed like a decent guy and we had a chat. I advised him that we'll be bringing around 20 cars, so possibly 20-30 people on the 17th ( it was already booked in ) and had a quick shifty around.

It's obviously an old pub with character as used by a few locals and many hikers / cyclists / bikers etc etc, seemed ok. There was a roaring fire going, the place was packed with hikers / cyclists getting food, having a beer and the craic.

Steve was telling me that "Scouting for girls" would be playing a gig there soon as they had done last year for charity, and the weekend we would be going that the Lambretta Club would be there Friday and Saturday, so we may see more than a few mods there on the day too...

The car had picked up its fair share of dirt, wear n tear on the way as seen parked in front of the pub, anyway moved on and headed for Leyburn, some decent roads with great views too.

They have their fair share of lumps n bumps and undulations with twists n turns, so more a scenic driving route rather than being able to have a blast anywhere.

I skilfully avoided many sheep / lambs and the odd low flying swallows and the like, but was stopped dead in my tracks, by of all things.....a young family of duck / partridge or similar waddling slowly across the road....lol
The road lead to Reeth and then opened up a little and actually had white lines on it at one point, lol

I was thinking, for those that want to, it may be a plan to have a drive after the meet / greet / craic etc and I thought we could perhaps look at as follows....
Leave the Tan Hill Inn and head in convoy to Reeth and then onto Richmond and final to the A66 at Scotch Corner.

It's only around 27 miles and about an hour. Once at Scotch Corner it's fairly easy for anyone to head North, South, East or West from there.

I guess we can see who may be up for it on the day....

Hi Jim, just to let you know there is a classic car show on at Newby hall Ripon on that Sunday. If you wanted to go you would carry on south at Reeth then to Leyburn and Masham then on to Ripon, good drive through the Yorkshire dales and a show at the end of it. Good connection from Ripon on to the A1 to go north or south. its an option.
Steve

To say I am jealous of your locale and scenery is an understatement :-) I really hope the day goes well with plenty of pictures up online from everyone afterwards - have a great time everyone & hats off to Jim for pulling together a fantastic meet (even if I can't make it lol)

Thanks Steve, appreciate the kind comments as always
This is just a quick thrown together meet for XJ owners only, it was only supposed to be 3 or 4 of us but has grown somewhat.

It's nowhere near the grand scale of Crieff, just a X350/X358 get together for the craic and a run out, meet n greet, and to see some nice examples of the cars we own and love.
Unfortunately I'm battling 2 things, a long standing very painful back issue, I visited the chiropractor yesterday and again tomorrow, It'll need to be extreme to stop me from going though.
The other is a very serious illness in the immediate family which I obviously have no control over.

Still thinking good thoughts and aim to be there failing anything too serious, I have plans in place should any of the above arise of course.

Best
Jim

Ok guys, now only 2 days to go till this event

Weather forecast checked - clouds giving way to sun 70c and 25% chance of precipitation ( hopefully all good )

Really looking forward to meeting you all and seeing an array of X350/X358 all in one place
Jim

Hi all, this is a shout out to ALL XJ X350 / X358 owners, re an XJ only meet event.
As some of you may know I've just held our Scottish Crieff meet event last Sunday which was a great day out for all concerned, see here...https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...e-05th-157318/

At the meet we had several XJ's including myself, Alec Escolme and John ( Caldoofy ) we even managed a pic of our 3 cars together, see here.......Name: 111_zps817hbl2z.jpg
Views: 55

4. Alec Escolme XJ X358 Facelift Super V8 (03)
5. Pegasus3710 XJ X358 2.7Tdvi Sovereign

Hope to hear

It's been a beautiful sunny day in the North East today and forecast is for the same tomorrow.

Should be perfect for getting clean and shiny X350's to Tan Hill.

Have a great day.

It's taken me three days to clean the two cars I'm driving up with my father, Tony. That pretty much guarantees two things:

1) Every seagull within the British Isles will use them for target practise, and
2) Every insect noth of the Sahara will end up stuck to the front bumpers.

At least that means everyone else's cars will arrive spotless. Happy to take one for the team!

I'm looking forward to the trip; although I did panic earlier when Google Maps couldn't calculate the route (I always travel with a printed map as well as satnav). We've got representation from most (all?) model variants of the X350/X358, so that will be good because I don't see that many down in my part of the country.

I hope circumstances allow you to come along Jim. My best wishes either way.

Well, was out n about in the car today, back was bloody sore and look like a right divit trying to get in or out of her ( takes around 5 mins either way, lol )

The MIL is still with us and nothing else has gone wrong ( yet as of 00.48am ) so I will be there for sure.
Due to back issues my car will be the dirtiest XJ there, that I can promise!

cars all packed, touched base with Danny and Seg, so we should be meeting up around 06.30 am and hope to convoy up with XJREcosse, he'll be running cross country and perhaps we'll meet around Abingdon M74 or similar.
Hope to be there for around 09.30 ish and see you all later

Best

Well, what a day, pretty good all round I think for a quickly thrown together meet.
I got to bed around 1am and up at 5am for the journey down, met up with Danny Laverty at Bothwell services and Seg & Ann sauntered in around 15 mins later

Danny and I left the car park but had to wait half an hour for Seg & Ann to catch up ( slow coaches.....lol ) then off down the M74 at a steady pace.

I'd been speaking to Bob ( XJREcosse ) who was travelling cross country from Linlithgow, so we dawdled somewhat until he caught up at Johnstonebridge services, quick break, Costa coffee and onwards at a quicker rate, aiming to be there around 09.15am

The journey was fairly uneventful until I was nearly side swiped by a female teenager in a Corsa or similar, then Bob / Seg & Ann missed a cut off etc ( lol ) so was around 09.25 by the time we arrived I think.

Alec and Marie Noelle were there already and we parked up as best we could, there were around 100+ scooters from the Lambretta club there so we made do until they left. We then kinda re arranged the Tan Hill Inn's car park, moving picnic tables etc and got a pretty good line up of sorts. There were other cars arriving steadily at this point and we were around 10 or 11 strong, so not bad.

It was nice to see XDave and his father Tony there, all the way from Devon!!

Alec and Dave helped me to put the banner up and everyone was chatting and having the craic, another 1 or 2 showed up so about 12 now.

Around 11.30 onwards we went inside for a drink and a chat, then another 2 showed up, that was Litho all the way from London.....nearly gave up as the Sat Nav wasn't playing ball but got there in the end. Really glad you made it and hope the ladies had a good time too?

Then Fraser and Mrs M showed up as well so 14 in total at the end up, pretty decent numbers......

Those who managed to make it were......
1. JimC64 XJ X358 2.7Tdvi Sovereign ( 58 )
2. Caldoofy XJ X358 XJR ( 08 )
3. Alec Escolme XJ X358 Facelift Super V8 ( 03 )
4. Pegasus3710 XJ X358 2.7Tdvi Sovereign
5. XJREcosse X350 XJR ( 07 )
6. Super350 X350 SuperV8 SWB
7. Fidelthecat X358 LWB ( 07 )
8. Fraser Mitchell X350 ( 03 )
9.1955davidr X350 3.5V8 2004
10.Bobobbysteve XJ X358 L 2.7Tdvi Sovereign ( 58 )
11.Litho XJ X358 XJR 2007
12.XDave XJ X350 XJR 2004
13.Tony Wulff XJ X350 3.0 2004
14. I_MNL X350 3.0 V6 SE ( 03 )

Unable to attend were......
1. Ashanti XJ X350 Super V8 ( 05 )
2.Tregosy X350 Tdvi Sovereign ( 07 )
3.Redfox666 X350 Super V8 LWB ( 04 )
4.SimonXJ XJR 2008
5.XJ09DEC XJ X358 2.7Tdvi ( 09 )

The pub as an attraction as the highest pub in England is fine, but it's a little basic, mostly for hikers / farmers etc I guess, so we decided to have our run a little early and enjoy lunch at Scotch Corner.

Bobobbysteve led the way and off we went, managing to convoy around 7 cars reasonably well

Of course we lost a few ( Seg & Ann again! ) but they and a few others showed up shortly after.......We had a bite to eat and chatted for a while before we all went our separate ways to the North, South East and West

The day started off a little cloudy and breezy, but turned out really quite warm and sunny in the afternoon....( that's the weather report portion of the day...lol )

Here's a few pics attached that I managed to snap quickly, I know that 1955DavidR ( alias David Bailey wit ha top notch camera ) has some great pics and I look forward to seeing them and any others, if you have em, please post em up.

I took the photo below before Litho and Fraser turned up so I'm missing two cars.

It was a nice day out. A 708 mile trip there and back from Tiverton, but pleasant driving the whole way and two only minor holdups on the route home. Quite pleased with the fuel economy in my XJR of 25mpg given the average speed of 65mph for the trip. The roads down to the pub and then back to civilisation were fantastic. As was seeing so many variations of the cars, and meeting you all and finding out I'm not the only one who has had more car interiors than cars in his garage.

Thanks again from Tony and I for organising it.

My post earlier was a little rushed as company arrived as I was going through it, so to add..........

I wanted to say a big thank you to the old hands, the veterans of the forum meets to date. These include on the day, but not limited to Alec Escolme, Caldoofy, Fidelthecat, I_MNL, Pegasus3710 and laterally XJREcosse who attend most meets and are a surefire on the day.
These guys will attend the opening of an envelope if it says Jaguar on it

To the old and new forum members and new attendees such as 1955Davidr, Bobobbysteve, Fraser Mitchell, Litho, Super350, XDave and father Tony Wulff

It was so nice to meet you all and see your cars, hear your stories, I'm glad to have met you and hope to see you all again someday
To the legend that is XDave - i'll see you again once I sort the picnic tables and dvd headrests, and look forward to organising my long weekend in Devon ....lol

SimonXJ is also another stalwart of the meet scene but unable to make it from Aberden with other commitments, maybe next time?
Ashanti, Redfoxx666, Tregosy amd XJ09DEC.........Such a shame you guys couldn't make it, you missed a good day.

It would've been nice to meet up with you and get to know you, maybe next time guys?

Compared to Dave and Tony, only around 380 miles for me so just a quick stretch of the Cats legs, made good time on the way home although mpg suffered terribly.
It was nice to see so many partners there on the day, a real family day out for John ( Caldoofy ) as he brought his 2 yr old son, so well behaved too.
I wonder when the last time was that there were 14 XJ's all lined up in one place ( production line notwithstanding of course....lol )

Maybe next time ( assuming there is a next time ) we'll do a trip to Devon, or perhaps the highest pub in Scotland, maybe the Northcoast 500 ( 500 miles of North Scottish coastline, maybe over 2-3 days??

Maybe it's time someone else took the lead

Either way, thanks again to you all for your attendance, superb Jaguar enthusiasts day out.
Looking forward to many more pics, I know they're out there.....
